2x+3y = 6
2x = 6-3y
x = (6-3y)/2 = 3-3y/2

If you are looking for a numeric answer you would need to know what y is equal to.

x =-3

Don't you need a system of equations for two variables? I can't think of anything you could use to solve this. One possible solution is y=3, x= -3/2

2(-3/2) +3(3)
-3 + 9
= 6

....yeah.

******** EDIT

How can you even begin to solve for one variable when you don't even know the other? You can't just place a random value you in for x, since by trial and error I found that x = -3/2, in one case...people are getting x = 3, and I'm getting -3/2...explain please. I stand by system of equations, which makes this equation unsolvable, in some respects! RAR! :P

******* EDIT

I love how people just disregard the "y" term in there - of course x = 3 if we just ignore the "y" but we cant.
