I recommend never giving them - or yourself - more than three days in which to poop - you mustn't let the intestinal toxins build up.
Change the formula, or try juices - if you can him to drink white grape juice, that's good for the bowels.
But the suppositories are the least habit-forming/least side-effecting remedy out there, and the most predictable. If they're the only way to make him do a smelly every day, keep giving 'em.

How old is your baby? You said 3 1/2, but you didn't say days, weeks, months or years which makes a big difference in what to do. It doesn't really matter, though, if you are breastfeeding all but one feeding a day. It is perfectly normal for breastfed babies to not poop for a few days, that doesn't mean they are constipated. Some babies will go a week without pooping, then have an explosion. Others will poop 5 times a day. Also, feeding patterns change frequently in breastfed babies because your milk adjusts to fit their needs, and they eat more or less depending on when they are having a growth spurt. As long as he is gaining weight, and his poop isn't super-solid, he should be fine. Good luck.

it really sounds like a feeding problem. Call his dr, and call the hospital for a referral to a lactation nurse, she can help make sure he is latching on well and getting enough. babies this young will not fuss if they are not getting enough, they just get sleepy and seem content, but it can be very dangerous. Start supplimenting more, if he falls asleep during feeds wake him up. Try nursing for 15-20 min on each side, then give an ounce of formula after the nursing. If you can see a lactation nusre tomorrow try to start using a supplimental nursing system (SNS, she will know what it is). Its a feeding tube you attach to your breast so the baby gets additional formula or pumped breastmilk while he nurses. Its a wonderful thing, it helped me with both my babies. Good luck, and don;t give up! The first 2-3 weeks are the hardest, it gets alot easier!

I used to lighten up the formula for one feeding when my son did not go. I would add more water to the formula then normal. These usually did the trick. Personally, I would not give my baby prune juice, but you may try a small amount of apple juice mixed with water.

if you are really scared give him some corn syurp and water like a teaspoon of syurp and 3 oz of water should work. but most doctors say wait 3 days no poop than give it. as long as he has wet diapers he should be fine if no wet ones take him to the er right away he could need fluids.
Im breastfeeding as well and last week my son had the same problem he didnt poop for 3 days i got worried so i pushed on his tummy gently because he is only 6 weeks and he farted real big and pooped. so be patient if you are really worried call the nurse advice line and ask if its okay to give him the corn syurp
Good luck to you

Try some warm apple juice. You might check on changing his milk to 1 percent or 2 percent milk. Talk to your baby dr.

Just be patient. When he does it will blow you away.
I panicked when my daughter didnt go for a week. I get to the ER, and she messed up so bad, I had to take her home naked. Needless to say we didnt stay.
