My computer is contaminated by a virus called "Security Toolbar 7.1." Would the viruses really be gone if I re-start my whole computer?

Oh, and do you know any website that'll allow me to create a free back-up disc. I have one, but it was from a couple of months ago. How does that work, by the way, since I had a trial for Windows One Care?

Please answer this, and thank you so much.

Woops. I downloaded Superantivirus before [like 2 weeks now?] and yeah, I can't get rid of it. Thanks for telling me that it's a virus, though.

Also, I can't access to my documents, computer, destop or anything at all now. All I can really do on it is go on the internet and on MSN Explorer [because IE's messed up my Security Toolbar.] Would it help if I restart my computer now?-- after getting rid of most of the viruses? I've ran a lot of software, so it must help by now because there's no more of those annoying pop-ups. Should I? Sorry for the long detail!

Yes. All viruses will be gone! to back-up, just get a flash drive. it will be well worth it. use your operating system install disk, and it will reinstall and wipe everything out! :)

Restarting your computer can not remove any malware. Only a reformat can.

Security Toolbar 7.1 indicates a Smitfraud infection. Follow the procedure and use the recommended RogueFix tool to remove it.

And if RogueFix doesn't work for some reason, give the free specialised removal tool, SmitfraudFix a crack at it:

Good luck.

Well, if you mean wiping your hard drive then it probably will, but it is probably more effective to download an anti-virus if you don't already, I STRONGLY suggest AVG I have it and it blocks, cleans or deletes the infected or infected virus. Oh and your question on back up disk? I have no idea but you can get USB's that have like 60gb at computer stores.

Restart your computer to get rid of viruses?

There is an old rule in life (that happens to apply here): Problems that go away by themselves come back by themselves.

You need to be pro-active. Get a real anti-virus and anti-spy software package. Learn how to use it. Then USE it.

Why wood you want to reinstall your windows operating system if you could just get a great Virus + Spyware scanner for free. Go to http://www.SpywareTerminator.com when you are installing it make sure to integrate WinClam AV when it asks you to. Do a full Virus and Spyware scan (There is a choice like that). It's 100% Free

The only way that would work is if you were running a thin client from flash with a write filter on it...very unlikely. DO as others have said first and run a recommended antispyware product, DO NOT just google antispyware and install a program, many of them are spyware themselves. I like superantispyware
