I'm not projecting. I passed my degree with distinction and was taken on as a lecturer at my own university. This aside, there tends to be a lot of people who write essays in place of answers. Surely a sign of people who don't have an intellectual outlet.

Why are you equating a person who doesn't have another intellectual outlet with failure? I have a four year college degree, I'm a small business owner, I've been married for 11 years and make my husband and children a priority. I have a house to maintain, hobbies I enjoy. I do gain a degree of intellectual stimulation from participating on yahoo....

So I'm a failed intellectual? OUCH

Funny, but the truth hurts. I have failed my intellectual exam seven times now. Even though I took one of those packaged courses guaranteeing I would improve my score on the intellectual exam, I still failed. Probably because I spent my time on YA rather than taking the practice tests. I've now reconciled myself to the fact that I will probably never by able to call myself an intellectual. I guess I'll just have to live with that. I searched the web for a failed intellectuals support group. But the best I could find was YA. Hello all. My name is Cliffy. And I'm a failed intellectual.

Intellectuals are usually the ones who go for international meetings at the tax payers interest, and who usually do not have contact with the grass roots.Thier policies are never carried out in real life, and they themselves are not interested in this aspect. All they do is present papers or give talks and argue till the cows come home with no interest in the actual implementation of their theories. A lot of people here I am sure are actually employed in various fields and these people are the real intellectuals who have real experiences. And here on YA the conversation has more interesting content than in any Asia Pacific Conference one could attend. So I dont see this as being a forum for failed intellectuals but as being one for real life practising intellectuals

Hehe, great question! Of course, most posters here aren't "failed intellectuals" but I'm sure that the "your so misinformed - read a book!"-type people on here are the ones that couldn't handle the pace of academia and are seeking to restore their self-esteem by being a big fish in a small pond. To everyone else they're just a small fish in said pond.

LOL. Interesting concept 'failed intellectuals'... I would say you are projecting, dear... Some of us are thriving in our real life. Thank you.

Anyone who takes women's studies has failed their intellect of free thinking for sure and has failed themselves and society of anything useful.
