You don't get to decide to to have a 'C" section. It is done in cases of emergency. Its not all about you! Both you and the infant have a greater risk of dying in a surgical birth.

Depending on where you live, most doctors will not allow you to have an elective c-section. However, ask your health professional because it really varies.

Just some additional info...

I had a last minute c-section due to the doctor realizing that my baby was still breeched. It was very routine and I did well during the surgery and the recovery.

Let me tell you, it's not like vaginal birth from what I hear. You can't leave the hospital for a minimum of 36 hours, nor would you want to. You'll need every pain killer they offer you. The incision is neat and small, but holy cow, you'll feel it all over your body. Every movement is painful.

It's tough to get around for at least the first week and you'll never want to lay down for fear of actually having to get vertical again. It HURTS.

C-sections are definitely a calmer birth process, but it's not the easiest. I have a high tolerance for pain and I've had surgeries before, but please realize it's very difficult to care for a baby when it takes someone else's help to just get you out of bed.

Also, this is rare, but I have sciatic nerve damage from the shot they used to administer the anesthesia to my spine. It's a risk any time you have an epidural or spinal injection and it's one that made me swear I'd have a drug-free vaginal birth... lo and behold, I didn't get much choice once a c-section was decided. The intense chronic pain I've been dealing with for the last 4 months is indescribable... painkillers don't even phase it.

I was anxious and scared of vaginal birth. I know how you feel, but trust me, it can't be any worse than a c-section. Your recovery will be SEVERAL times quicker and it costs a heck of a lot less money to have a baby vaginally.

Women are designed to have babies and we've managed to do it quite well for thousands of year. Prepare yourself mentally and emotionally, and pretty soon, I'll bet you feel better about.

I'm not trying to scare you away from a c-section (they really are very safe), but please realize there is no "easy" way out of delivering a baby. One way or another, you're going to be pretty uncomfortable.

DO NOT have an elective c-section. I had to have an emergency c-section(after laboring for 2 days). I think many women don't realize that a c-section is MAJOR surgery, which means down time. I didn't get to hold my son for 3 hours because I couldn't feel anything from the neck down(I had to have two shots in my spine), even when I was finally able to hold him, I had to be sitting down.
It still gets worse, when you get home, you feel like you've been hit by a bus! Your entire mid section hurt, but guess what you still have a baby to take care of. Don't move around too quickly because you could rip your stitches. No stairs, now "extra" moving around, all for 2 weeks.
Do you like the freedom of driving and coming and going whenever you feel like it? FORGET IT, My state(CA) doesn't allow you to drive for 6 weeks), i'm sure it's not much different anyplace else.
So what exactly do you think you are getting out of? Pain, nope, it still hurts. I would take vaginal birth ANYDAY!!! Besides, most doctors won't let you have a c-section just because you want one(unless your rich and famous that is)
An excellent book to read is the The Offical Lamaze Guide, forget everything you've ever heard about Lamaze, because most people are wrong! It's not about breathing!
Read that book from cover to cover. It gives you a wealth of information on procedures, what the hospital will do, and what your options are. Also stay at home as long as you can(the hospital won't let you stay unless you have something wrong or are at least 4cm anyway) when they do let you stay, they will make you alternate between walking and laying down, you can do that in the comfort of your own home. The only difference is, they won't let you eat. I could go on for days....Just make sure you do your research, make sure you are informed and know what to expect and that will ease your fears.

A lot of doctors don't let you choose a c-section. It's major surgery, and should only be done if completely necessary. Before I was pregnant, I swore up and down that if I ever did get pregnant I would schedule my c-section immediately...that lost it's attractiveness very quickly! I'm now looking forward to my epidural assisted vaginal birth. Think it over some more. Do you really want to have your entire abdomen cut through? The delivery might be easier, but I promise you that after delivery is when you DON'T want to be in pain, that way you can care for your baby.

I would not suggest a c section,
when I first found out I was pregnant, I was like ok where do i sign to get a c section?? I am scared to death of giving birth vaginally.
however after doing days of research, online and calling different doctors I Found out c-sections are AWFUL. the recovery can take up to and longer than 6 weeks, and is apparently worse pain than actually giving birth.
the scar isnt bad, its the fact your getting major abdominal surgery and you wont even be able to lift anything heavier than your baby. my friend had one and was bedridden for 3 weeks, she couldnt even breastfeed her baby because it put strain on her belly. her husband had to spong bath her, and do EVERYTHING for her.
so I would look into it..I wouldnt have a c setion unless absoultely necessary, like if the baby was breach, or the cord was wrapped around its neck..etc.
good luck.

I agree that alot of doctors won't let you have the choice if you are healthy and able to have a vaginal birth then go for it. they offer epidurals for pain relief. You might talk to your doctor about the reason why you don't want a vaginal birth and see what he/she says. I had both of my children vaginal and my sister-in-law had to have c-sections, it was not easy afterwards for her, she had to pump milk in between pain medication.
Just a few things to think about.
Good Luck!

Just a natural thing to want to do my first i was wanting the same. But i ended up having an epidural and having my son naturally. Then i was pregnant with my daughter and i had her naturallyas well, nothing but gas with her.
You will be suprised how well ur body will cope.Trust me u want to be able to get up and walk around and not lay in bed with a painful incision and not being able to get comfortable or hold ur baby.
GO THE GAS but have water handy it dried my mouth out

GOODLUCK WITH BUB

it wont be your choice. why would you want a c-section? it takes longer to recover and you wont be able to care for your baby because you will have stitches to recover from. AND you will have scar tissue which can interfere with any other pregnancies you might have. Chances are you have one c-section, you will have another for the next one..and they only allow you to have 3 before they gut you completely for your safety. Opt for the natural birth...its the way God made you. Its too early to decide anything anyways.
