Just before the first of every month, the management slips a calendar (with tenants birthdays & other events filled in) for the next month under our doors. The first birthday I had here my name didn't appear on the calendar for my birthday. So, I mentioned it to the management so they could update their records. She apologized & put a notice in the elevator & on the wall in the community room letting everybody know my birthday was on the 4th. I felt a little embarrassed to be singled out like that. But, the next year I was included. Now, this year I just got my calendar page for December & started looking to see what events & birthdays were coming up & noticed I was left out again!! I feel kind of sad about it as I have no family & it is kind of nice to have your neighbors tell you "happy birthday". What should I do? My birthday is Dec.4th and it's too late to put out a new calendar. It hurts a little to see other people's names down on their birth date and mine is blank.

This doesn't do my depression during the holiday season a whole lot of good and I just don't know how to confront this situation. I have toyed with the idea of throwing myself a birthday party in the community room and inviting everybody. LOL But, I know me and I will probably just stay to myself and feel forgotten.

Duffyisagoodboy apparently does not know what it is like to get older and be alone. It is little things like having your name on a calendar and feeling remembered that makes our day, especially our birthdays! I have no family either, so I understand what you are saying.I would definitely contact management again and ask them what happened.Have a Happy Birthday! I hope you are able to treat yourself to something you love.

Do you know I think that is a wonderful idea you have. Put a
sign in the elevator, inviting everyone to an "open house" and
state it is your birthday and you want to celebrate with all of
your neighbors. Purpose is to meet them all, and you'll have
drinks and hordoerves to snack on. Have some music and
buy or make a sheet cake. And have paper plates and paper
cups and plastic forks. You can have a cooler of pops or
make a punch, with a punchbowl.
You're sure to have alot of drop ins. If nothing more than out of curiosity. I doubt if it was a deliberate mistake on the missing calendar date. She wouldn't want to offend a tenant deliberately and lose a renter. It costs too much to re clean and find a renter and place an ad as well. I'm sure she wants to keep her tenants happy.
Set the time for a couple of hours and I'm sure you'll have
alot of drop ins after enough people see the posting.
Good luck and have fun at your party!
Oh, and Happy Birthday in advance!

Happy early Birthday to you. Yes you should give yourself a party and invite all in the building. Put the notices up where everybody can see them and have a great time. And talk to management again and ask them why they keep omitting your name , maybe there are others they are leaving out in the same situation as you.

I would let the management know that they left you out again. Even though your birthday is on the 4th, it is not to late to let them know the mistake that they made again. When they post your birthday for all to see, folks will know that their book keeping is not as it should be. You could invite folks to your apartment for a small get together for your birthday. I am sure that you know some of the folks that live there. Do this little party for your self if nothing else. Depression is not a good thing to go through alone, I know, I suffer from it myself and on medicine for it.
Happy Early Birthday to you!!!!

I would mention it again to the management. I don't see anything wrong with inviting the neighbors over for coffee and cake. Be sure and remind us on the 4th that it is your birthday so we can write you a little happy birthday note.

We used to have a BD party once a month for all the tenants with that month as a 'day'.
Lately there are no more calendars and no more craft nights or bingo nights pot lucks or bbq's etc. We had a flier about a Xmas dinner and to contact la la for what to bring. I won't attend, my BD is the day after yours and last year they called of the Dec. party. I went thru what you are going thru for years at work, I baked cakes etc. and was always ignored when mine came around. Don't let it get to you. After all once you turn 18 the great celebrations are over and done with, now its time to just grow older. ;0)

Management at my apartment complex stopped doing this a few years back. I would feel bad if I was left off the calendar and would mention it again.
Happy Birthday to you. Hope you have a great one!.

Go to a party supply store and get a birthday cake decoration that you can write on. Get one for each month, and write down every ones name for that month, with a note if your name is inadvertently forgotten to please write it in. You can put yours down, and for the others that are forgotten also, they can put theirs down. You are probably not the only one that is omitted. Hang this where everyone will see it, or maybe buy several then each month change them, but save the old one for the names. That way you can make sure you have it ready for next year.

We have to make our own happiness in life and not depend on others to feel worthwhile . This is a superficial way to seek recognition and personally I wouldn't bother with reading anything into the omission. Treat yourself to something on your birthday and forget about it. Here is a link for you .On Dec 4, play it all day if you want. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
