Well my due date isnt until Saturday but the doctors are going to induce me on Friday, if i dont go into labor before then.. (I had an accident and fell on my belly giving me steady contractions) So this was my option. I just wanted to see other womens experiences of having to be induced and how it went for you or some1 you know?

my doc started me on pitocin for 6 hours with little progress. I felt contractions but they weren't bad. then he popped my bag and there wasnt any cushion so i felt those contractions..and i screamed and cried for an epidural after about 5 minutes...and baby was pushing 10 minutes later. the epidural came in at 11 minutes, so I got numb and couldnt feel the urge, so that gave me an hour to get a perineal massage.

Lesson: if he breaks your bag, get the epidural at the same time.
Regret: if the doc had come 5 minutes later, I would've had a natural birth, which is what I wanted. oh well next time!

I was induced twice, but neither were planned. The first time around, my water had been leaking, but I didn't know for how long, so they had me induced immediately, to avoid infection.

With the second, I was dilated to 4 cm before ever going to into labor, so they ended up inducing me because I was having minor contractions, but my labor wasn't progressing much after that.

My sister is an L&D nurse, and she said that she's only seen a few women who were induced go without an epidural. The synthetic chemical that triggers labor (oxytocin) brings it on harder and faster than labor would progress naturally. So an epidural is usually used when oxytocin is.

When you're chemically induced, they do use more monitors to determine fetal heartrate and to measure the contractions. Because of the harder, faster nature of the chemical, in some cases, the infant is at risk of fetal distress, so it's important to keep those monitors on there. Once the heartrate would begin to drop that low, they are immediately alerted and can either give you oxygen, or consider a c-section. I had to have oxygen for a little while when I was in labor with my second child.

The monitor thing, and the fact that an iv is used, kind of limits your mobility. In fully natural labor, certian positions, or walking, can help, but you're pretty much confined to the bed, except for very short breaks when you have to use the restroom, since you're "hooked up."

Now, I had two really good experiences with being induced. The first time around, I was induced around 3:00 pm, began to push around midnight, and my son was born at 12:46 AM. The second time, I was induced around 5:30 in the morning, and my son was born around 1:55 in the afternoon. Other than being on oxygen for a while the second time around, I did really well. I was able to get an epidural almost immediately, because I was pretty dilated when I arrived.

My sister had a planned induction, though, and it was not a good experience. She was induced at 5:00 AM (almost a month late), and my nephew was born -- by c-section -- 23 hours later. He was almost eleven pounds, and induction doesn't do a lot if the toddler you're giving birth to just won't fit. In fact, her cervix started CLOSING from the swelling that resulted from the pressure my nephew's big fat head was putting on it over the course of all those hours. But that experience was the combination of a doctor who should not have let her pregnancy go on that long (particularly since the baby measured REALLY big), who shouldn't have let her for that long when it was clear hours earlier that the baby was probably not going to fit, and an abnormally large baby. It's not the standard at all.

Good luck! Just keep in mind that there is no way to know how your experience will be, so try to keep from having many expectations -- good or bad.

In the end, the ONLY thing that is important is that you deliver a healthy, beautiful baby.

I wasn't unduced although I have been around a lot of people who had been.... basically it just helps you dialate quicker instead of waiting around your house to be dialated enough for it to be worth going to the hospital for, and it will all probably happen while your in the hospital bed because I don't think they like really letting you get up and walk around once they've given you something... everyone i know that was induced it went really well for, although even though your induced some people will still dialate quicker than others, it just depends on how close your body was to be ready to do it on its own but since your real due date is saturday and your being induced friday it shouldn't be to long of a wait for you and other than being induced you should be able to do everything else natural unless they have to break your water for you (i'm not sure if they do that while induced you or not since if your water is broken you will also dialate quick.... or most do anyway)... I had my water broke at the hospital because I stayed at four centimeters for a while and once they broke it I went straight from four to eight and then ten came quick, i found it really helped that I got the epidural right before it was broke that way it was already in my system so i still didnt feel the contractions much , i didn't feel them break my water, and i already had it in me pretty good by the time I was able to start pushing my son out, ... it's also probably a really good thing that your starting to dialate and effaced on your own, it probably won't take you long at all once induced.... good luck and hope all goes well... congrats on the new baby in advance

I was induced...

If I had it to do over again, I would skip being induced and have the c-section.

After nearly 30 hours of being induced, we couldn't go any further than 8 cm.

My son was nearly 9 lbs. at birth... and after being in labor for so long THEN having the c-section, it was a VERY hard recovery.

If there is any small chance you may have to have a c-section... skip the induction.

My doctor will go straight for the c-section if I have any more kids. She said it is very likely I will have the same problem and that the recovery will be easier because my body won't already be tired from labor.

Hopefully you have better luck.

Iv'e done both. Inducement is not any worse than natural labor, you just get to the heavy contractions sooner. When you labor naturally you have hours, sometimes days of small, managable contractions. After a while you enter active labor, and it starts to hurt. Transitional labor is the worst, but it goes fast. Remember, you can have pain relief if you need it.

I went into labor naturally with my first baby, my water broke at 3 cm so I had no natural cushion to ease the contractions. I was in alot of pain, and got an epidural. I needed it, he had to be delivered with forceps, I can not imagine going throught that drug free.

I was induced with my 2nd baby, I entered the hospital already dialated to 6, but I was not contracting. I was started on pitocin at 7 and had my son at 8:33, all natural. It was awesome!! If we have any more kids I will choose natural again!

I was 1cm dialated and 100% effaced for over a month, contracting every day, but irregularly, for about 4 weeks, and then got induced because I developed preeclampsia.

They started me on pitocin at 7pm. They kept adjusting it higher because nothing was happening. Once they cranked it all the way up to the maximum dose, I started progressing but still not very fast.

At around hour 12 they broke my water artificially, and still basically nothing happened. However, there was meconium (baby stool) in my water (because, unbeknownst to them at the time my due date was wrong and I was actually 3 weeks overdue!) so they said that if I didn't have him before 7pm the next night that I was going to have to have a c-section.

When I was in labor for 17 hours I finally hit 4cm, at which point they told me it was now or never for the epidural-I chose now. (I AM SO GLAD I DID!)

The doctor came in at 6:40 to check my cervix because they were prepping the OR for my c-section and he told me that I was *almost* 10cm but not quite, so they were going to move me into OR. I told him that was BS and that I was pushing now because I *WAS NOT* having a c-section, and he'd better be down there to catch. I pushed 3 times and my son was born at 6:47pm after 23 hours and 47 minutes of labor.

There was some fairly painful stuff before the epidural, but very little pain after the epidural...I'm still SO GLAD that I got it, and I plan to get it again this time!! I did tear because I pushed too early, but I would have torn anyway because my son's head was 14.5 inches around. I don't regret for a second being induced, and everything went smoothly overall-and my son was and still is a very very healthy baby boy.

Good luck to you and congrats on your little one!

i was induced too.bt my cervix was uneffaced and pretty long too..they tried from 4 am in the morning and gave up at 7 pm.had mild contractions bt nothing was happening so finally had to have a c-section.baby was fine.he had his cord looped around his neck and heartbeat was constantly monitored.they inserted a tablet deep into the cervix and said that once there is some dilation next step wud be to pierce the amniotic sac to speed up labor along with a drip. i never got to that point. all the best!

i had to be induced bc i had preeclampsia and i was not feeling any of my contractions. they hooked me up to the machines when i got there and it showed me having them every 3-4 mins and really bad ones but could not feel any of them. They started me on pitocin so i could feel my contractions( i was dilated to a 3) but it did not work. The dr came in 3 hours later and broke my water and about an hour later i felt EVERY SINGLE ONE! but since i was only dilated to a 7 and wanted to push, they gave me nebane(idk how you spell it) and it helped alot! but after they broke my water, i had my baby 5 1/2 hours later. i went in at 2 p.m. and had my baby at 10:30 p.m. i did not have an epidural and i am so glad bc 2 days later was walking around the hospital and the girl in the room next to me had an epidural and she could barely walk. but, honestly, when they break your water, it is SO uncomfortable and when they put a catheder up there to empty your bladder, thet hurt worst then labor.

Good Luck and hope this helped!!!
