You said other than the obvious, which is suicide. But it turns your immune system against you and then everything is downhill from there. Eating patterns change leading to anorexia or becoming overweight, normal exercise is limited, sleeping patterns change which effects awareness and causes accidents, personal hygiene can even become effected and the person has an unkempt appearance and a sad demeanor often. Others hide it well. We all have our bad days (this one is one of mine) but if someone is always this way and you notice it, try to ask them how they feel and draw them out. If it's someone you care about, help them find a counselor or a doctor that can help them overcome depression before they die from the effects on their body or accidents endangering others. It is sad to watch them self-destruct when they could be helped.

Every body falls into depression!!! Even me, for some overcoming depression takes on will and others who are depressed to at least 2 months definitely need immediate treatements. Depression limits your apetite and slowly you fall into an eating disorder which if are left untreated can be fatal. Depression will kill you if you begin having hallucinations and hearing voices and seeing them as well. You need antidepressors by its self, or you might need antidepressors after being advised by a psychologist as well.

It's a mental illness and could manifest itself in physical ways such as: eating disorders ( over- or under- eating ); failure to get enough exercise ( aerobic exercise is a good anti-depressant, by the way ); failure to pay attention to everyday life exposing you to risk of accidental death; experiencing stress which could cause hypertension, heart problems, or general depress your immune system, exposing you to all kinds of disease risks.

I'm not a doctor but I can imagine the stress of depression can lead to a deadly ailment. IE, high blood pressure leads to a heart attack.

some ppl over eat or under eat and thier body becomes weak, and they are more prone to sicknesses. they become lonely and do not talk to anyone. if this happens for too long a person can have a breakdown or become mental.

It can't kill you directly... only indirectly; like smoking- different types of cancer, and heart disease; all of which are increased by smoking.
