The ACLU pushes hard for the rights of the liberal elite, the athiest, Mexican illegal crossing the border and the list goes on. The ACLU WATCHES us, but who watches them? What do you think?

I think people who cant understand what the ACLU does are morons. Not you of course. That would be an insult. Enforcing that pesky Constitution just rubs some people the wrong way I guess. And no, I'm not a member of the ACLU nor do I agree with everything they do. That would be ignorant. Just like disagreeing with everything the do is.

Most people have this all wrong. Conservative means preserving, protecting, and respecting traditions and laws.

For example, the idea that I have the right to own a gun is conservative, because it's in the constitution. The idea that the government can't come into my house without a warrant, likewise is conservative.

If someone passes a law which restricts someone's free speech, then it's not a liberal cause to fight that law.

It get's confusing, because the ACLU defends the core rights regardless of the person. It might be the KKK or a civil rights group, but if there's an impairment of free speech, the ACLU will be there.

That's not liberal. That's true conservatism.

And abortion rights? Abortion was legal in 1776.

Smoking grass? Also legal in 1776.

I'm not sure how people anti these things can call themselves conservatives with a stright face.

They also defend the Klan and Civil Rights advocates. The mandate of the ACLU is to defend the Constitution. Their goal is to defend the civil liberties of the average American. It is usually the left-wing, liberal, illegal immigrants, gays, and atheists who need representation but cannot afford it due to their hippy lifestyles.

While they generally represent positions that most Americans would regard as offensive, they are vital to a democracy. Under the law, no plaintiff or defendant should win unless his position agrees with the Constitution. The ACLU can represent someone who wants to have sex with children, but if our laws don't allow that, then they will lose and establish judicial precedent.

By bringing such a case, the ACLU has strengthened the position of those who oppose sex with children. Every challenge to existing law results in a clarification, reiteration, or change to that law. Without such challenges, women could not bring divorce proceedings, blacks could not vote, and Hindu children could not refuse to recite prayers from the Christian Bible in school.

It is not the job of the ACLU to judge the merits of a particular action; it is the job of the judges and juries appointed to hear such actions. Without people like the ACLU, we might well be experiencing a situation like Pakistan is now.

The ACLU is the farthest thing from being an agent of a foreign nation. I worked for the ACLU at one time and was on their Board for Las Vegas. We took on the Government on a variety of civil rights issues. It was the ACLU who litigated the NSA wiretapping and the Patriot Act. If you want to find an organization who needs to be registered as an agent of a Foreign Nation better take a look at AIPAC. Get your priorities right.

The ACLU works for the people. If you don't like what they do, tell the feds who give them $$$....pretty simple actually.
