No it's not against the law. I have had interest in women older than me...I dont see anything wrong with it as long as you both can deal with it. I say that but with this in consideration..this woman could be your mother and probably in the back of her mind is wondering if she could attract someone as young as you. If it makes better sense as to call it a mid-life crisis then that's what I would label it. I could be absolutely wrong but that's my impression.
If it were me, I would hang this out to dry and pursue someone that's a little closer of my own age. I promise you'll be much happier. Here's a little something to see the difference.
You know love is there when "the grass isn't greener on the other side" and there's nothing you wouldn't do for them.
Lust, however, is nothing more than a 5 y/o wanting a new toy for Christmas. Sure, it will last a month but when the "new" feeling has worn off...there's nothing special about it any longer. Leaves them wanting another "toy." Hope you understand what I'm getting at.

It is not illegal as long as both people are 18 or older. I highly doubt it's love though. Sounds like a lot of lust on both sides. The 40 year old is seeking the experience of feeling young and passionate and the 18/19 year old is seeking the experience of being with an older woman.
