When I was a kid, we didn't have that option. Those of us that had a phone, it was usually a party line and off limits to kids. we did go outside and show off to our friends. You wouldn't believe the number of kids trying to ride bikes in the snow.

Yes, Invited my friend to my house and gave her my gift. I showed her my gifts. Then we went to her house.
