Are there any competitive teams in the area? I know of the Niagara Purple Eagles but I'm not sure if they play in a competitive division. It seems like the perfect area to have a successful team considering its proximity to Canada's largest population area and I'm sure they would have a fan base. I'm pretty sure UB is division I but I don't think they have a hockey team. Any insight would be appreciated.

Buffalo State and UB (University of Buffalo) are 2 different schools. Buff State is div III and like I said before, UB is, I think division I with no team.

The Purps, baby. ;) Niagara U is ranked above Boston University this season in NCAA Division I hockey. That's pretty impressive considering how well BU did last season. If you're looking to watch a good college game, I'd suggest Purple Eagles season tickets. The Eagles are only third in the CHA, but they've only played 5 conference games this season. They lost to the Beavers tonight, but they play them again tomorrow and maybe they'll kick some Bemidji butt! :) Actually, I believe tonight's loss ended Niagara's 23 undefeated home game streak. The Purps actually have a sick-powered offense and they're tied for fourth nationally in scoring defense at 1.91 goals allowed per game. Not too shabby. :)

Well, as far as top Division I teams go, the Purps have played Bowling Green, Cornell and Western Michigan so far this year, however they mostly play CHA teams, like Robert Morris and Wayne State. Same logic applies for RIT and Canisius. They mostly play Atlantic Hockey teams with a few out of conference games with some top CCHA/Hockey East competition. Buffalo State College... yeah. Not a chance in hell they'll have any Division I teams on their schedule.

UB does not have a varsity team, but they do have a D1 club team that plays in the ACHA (American Central Hockey Association). They play teams such as Niagara (club), Deleware, Penn State, Eastern Michigan, West Virginia, Towson St., etc.... They average about 20 or so games a year I believe, not including thier divisional playoffs as well as Nationals. Only the top 16 teams make the national tournament in Feb/Mar based on coaches rankings. Right now UB is not ranked and Niagara is ranked number 14.
