I live in a county that has very well founded, and are good schools in general.
In your expirience which is better?? When it comes to private schools, do you really get you moneys worth?
Or is it better to take your kids to public schools since they have great extra curriculum activities?? What do you think??

i went to both. When i finally got put in public school,i had a blast! I felt cheated bc it seems that i missed out on alot. I was shelter alot by the way private schools handled everything. Now i am a mother, and trying to figure out which my children should attend. :P

I would favor private schools.
They seem to be less tolerant and would not put up with disruptive behavior and such. In that way, private schools have a better atmosphere.
But thats my opinion, whats yours?

In Australia the private schools are a leap in front of State. The State system are lacking funds and resources, they have limited equipment and space. Private schools are usually spread out and landscaped to make the child feel more at home.
Bullying in Private schools is also alot less than Public schools. private schools take a firm approach to bullying and monitor it, whereas public schools dont have the resources and time to monitor it as closely.
Private secondary schools in Australia can be quite cheap from $2000 - $10000. If you have the funds private schooling is the better way to go.

In private schools, the mix of students is different because, unlike public schools, they are able to exclude students. Additionally, they are generally filled with children of more affluent, better educated parents on the average.
Public schools must accept all children, even those who are homeless, severely handicapped, emotionally disturbed, low IQ, non-English speaker, illegal immigrant, you name it. Surprisingly, the qualifications necessary for teachers are actually higher in public schools and salaries are also usually higher.
Basically, some public schools are very good and, at the high school level, usually offer a lot more options in terms of courses and extra-curricular activities. If your high school has an International Baccalaureate program, that might be better on a transcript than many private schools. If you live in an area of good public schools, I would go with that.

It depends on two main things: 1) What are your child's interests and 2) What is the public and private schools like in your area? If your child is more into academics, then private schools are generally better. But then again, I know of some public schools that have incredible academics as well. This is what I would do: Send your child to one school for a day (it's called "shadowing" program) and send your child to the other school for a day. Ask to tour facilities (if he/she is interested in sports and extracurriculars) and the day spent in the school will give you kid a general idea of what the school atmosphere is like (tense, happy, etc.) Everyone's experience is different, so it really is up to your child and where he/she feels more comfortable.

personaly i think private but that may be because i go to one. I went to public for elementry school and the teachers weren't that great. I went to public and it was much better smaller classes more help when i needed it. In 8th grade i had to big papers but it got me prepared for high school. I go to a private high school now and it is college prep and 100% of their student have gotten into one of their top colleges. It may be hard and more work but it is worth it even if not going to college. Public the work is easier so more people will be able to pass and graduate. For me my teachers are very nice and willing to help. Private schools can have extra curriculum activities too. I think if you have kids you should let them decide, if they are in a place they hate they will not care about school but if they like it then they are happier and therefor a easier kid to work with. I like private schools but i don't like catholic schools but thats just what i think, the teachers are too strict, my friend had a bad time with the kids and teachers, but all depends on the person

I prefer public schools.
I know people who go to private schools, and in my opinion, it is just a total waste of $500+ a month.
The only benefit I can see for private schools is they are alot smaller, and from what I've heard, people usually learn better in smaller classes. My high school had 5200 students, so I can't confirm the truth about that :P

It depends on the individual child.
What are the child's personality and their educational needs/goals?
A confident outgoing athletic child may do best in public school, while a young musician with artistic skills may do best in private school.
Another factor is class size and teacher student ratio. Public schools often have 20 - 30 kids in a class, while private schools may have 12 - 15

Private schools are helpful becuase they give the kid a better chance at getting into a good college, but somtimes private schools can be really closed minded, and kids who've been in a private school atmosphere usually find it hard to adjust to college. I know that in my school (a public school) we had a lot of kids who've gone on to graduating first in their class in colleges like Harvard and NYU, which goes to show you can get a good education virtually anywhere.. which probably narrows it down to the personal needs ot the child.

I have chosen public schools for my children. I live in an area that has good public schools and I want the diversity in race and culture to be a part of their lives. Also, I feel their spiritual and religous upbringing should be seperate and family taught.

public. I was raised with both. Private is more strict and stilll you don't get your moneys worth. They just stress your kids out and they take most of the money for themselves. They don't use them for activities.
Public schools may cuss more but your kids will hear that anywhere. They do more activities and your kids will have fun learning.
