can anyone suggest an easy way to remove the glue left behind by carpet tiles, its in a few patches and wanted to remove the fluffy pile thats still attached to the glue before painting the floor with non slip paint, also has anyone got a clue how to fit a backing plate to an angle grinder and use a grinding disc, im totally without a clue about angle grinders and until recently thought DIY meant Don't Get Involved. Thanks for any help you can give. I have got to go to the diy shop today so can purchase anything that is useful.

The shop should direct you to a substance that removes glue. Acetone and I found WD-40 will remove most glue. With Acetone you MUST be well ventilated. If you wanted to use elbow grease you could use a sander to remove the glue as well.

Rubber solution glue comes off well with 'Hammerite' thinners.
Grinding or cutting discs are held onto an angle grinder by the bit with two holes in it (nut) that screws onto the mounting shaft.
Unscrew clamping disc.
Remove old disc.
Place old disc on shaft,
Out on new one
Tighten nut
Discs come in all sizes and purposes - look in Wickes, B&Q or similar for what you need.

you should be able to get most of it off with a scraper ,using a heat gun will also help ,just takes lots of elbow grease, then if you want it totally clean , finish cleaning with adhesive remover. needs to be real well ventilated for this, and follow all the safety precaution on the can , example turn off pilot lights in area

Hot water won't touch it, burning it is a fire hazard and will smell, anything with solvent in will remove it, and evaporate after, keep well ventilated and watch for fire risks, wd40 works, but then you have the smell, and it is also difficult to clean up after.

You can try heating the glue. I don't know how you would do this, but it will melt away I guess and you can begin scrubbing.
