They should have no reason to, that is personal and private information. You should not to be discriminated against for how your credit score looks.

A person who manages their own finances well (as indicated by a high score.) Will likely handle assets of the company well also. Won't be wasteful with resources, will be dependable, etc.
Not that an employer can be sure of those traits coming with people with high credit scores, but the likelihood is there.

I don't know that they are actually checking your credit score, but may be checking your credit. You may be considered a theft or embezzlement risk if you have a lot of debt. One more reason to cut up those credit cards.

Depends on the position. If you work with tangible materials an employer wants to make sure an employee isn't desparate enough to rip them off.

They do it partially to verify your information (for example if you gave them a correct social security number) and also to see if you are a responsible person. They have to get your written consent to run your credit check though.

I think they figure that someone who can't manage their finances may not be as competent in the workplace as someone who has good financial discipline. It's probably one of the few indicators that they have access to about how well you manage your life.

I think they use that info to try and figure out if you are trust worthy. I do not think they should. Just because you may be late on your bills does not mean you are dishonest.
