There are decent suggestions so far. Certainly you could flip it and put the cuts back in possible; although we can't know the area of the cutting, nor if it would span any studs.

The direct answer as you have been given is yes. I'd suggest priming that side; then tape/mud/ sand/ and prime again.

It may be that moisture resistance isn't at issue anyway; hence not much to worry about in that regard.

The two sides are both paper. The lighter side should be the side with compressed edges; allowing for tape/mud/sand/ FLUSH finish.

As one other says however; a sheet of dryall might be less than $15, and if need be you might be able to use the waste piece for other, smaller cuts.

Yes you can.....it can be taped and floated out...i know this because a guy i knew hung a room of drywall backwards {doh] and i floated it out for him instead of replacing it. I just had to float out the joints more because it did'nt have the tapered edge, but it still looked good when it was done and painted. the brown side is just a little rougher than the finished side. BTW, drywall is'nt that expensive if you messed up!

Can't you recut and patch it in place anyway? You can probably mud it anyway, but the one side is usually more moist resistant than the other I think, but I'm not an expert on drywall.

And be sure to seal the paper that isn't mudded before you paint.
