In medicine, investing, international relations, etc. it seems like everyone is constantly criticizing people who have spent their entire lives honing skills pertinent to those disciplines. "The doctor might be wrong about that diagnosis." "The Real Estate agent's advice might be wrong." Etc. Why?

It's the same with creationists, except they don't class as high as amateurs. You've heard the saying "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing"? This is true in many cases, such as theses.

Such blind faith in who you perceive as authority figures can set you up for some disillusioning surprises.

"Expertise" that cannot be questioned does not have true authority.

If "experts" don't like my questions and recognize my wish to actively cooperate with them in searches for solutions, that is their problem, and they don't have to take my money!

Professional advice is advice. Those paid to provide it are not your parents or caretakers. They are not infallible!
Only you can determine if it is the right advice for you. I may not have "expertise" in a field, but I certainly have the capability to learn about it as it relates to me.

I have personally received incorrect information / bad advice from real estate agents and wrong diagnoses from doctors. Asking questions, doing research, heeding instinct, and being willing to "make a scene" has prevented serious mistakes that I would have suffered from.
