I was outside for a walk on a campground when the first plane hit, and some construction guys working there told me about it. By the time I got home, I turned on the TV to see. Then by the time I got to campus for class, the first tower was falling.

last night on the 25 best Emmy performances t.v. special a country western singer sang a song that began: what were you doing when the world stopped turning: i was moved to tears as i immediately relived that horrible day. i had just been awake for about 15 minutes and was having my coffee to start my day and turned on a national morning news show. as they broke to commercial i warmed my coffee up and after the break they did not return to regular programming, instead was this surreal footage of a plane in flames embedded in one of the trade center towers, just as every one else i thought what a horrible mishap, not even thinking or imagining terrorism. shortly thereafter when the 2nd plane struck it didn't take much to realize what was happening and that is when the world as i knew it really did stand still, nothing else seemed significant at that moment. nothing could prepare me for the events to follow when the plane crashed into the Pentagon and when those brave people gave their lives to avert another possible plot to crash a fourth plane into the WHITE HOUSE. it wasn't until i was 23 years old that i realized how fragile and dangerous our world was, that was Nov.23,1963. the next when was when a misguided soul who was raised 15 miles from where i live was responsible for the OKLAHOMA government building bombing. i pray every day that i don't have to witness anything as tragic as these events in my life time, but i fear the worse is yet to come. all these events play back in my mind like a video tape that can not be erased.

I was driving to work. It was a short drive but the dj's on the radio sounded so weird.... I knew something was up so I sat in my car & listened to them tell us that planes had flown into the towers. I called my husband, who at the time was a history teacher, & interrupted his class to tell him something BIG was going on, so he could tune in & actually teach history while it was happening. Well, of course the big lug didn't trust my judgement & didn't go check it out until later. That's husbands for ya.
Totally OT, but I also lived in OK City when Timothy McVeigh blew up the Federal Building. It was a very bizarre time to be there! Totally not like America. I can't even imagine how horrible it would be to live somewhere that has stuff like that happen all the time.

I worked in the endoscopy department at a local hospital. The whole place, including the doctors, came to a complete standstill right after it happened. We stood there watching in disbelief when the towers began to collapse.

Just thinking about it gives me the chills.

At my home in Nevada. We received a phone call from one of our daughters in Ohio who told us to turn on a TV. I watched the events unfold, hoping against hope that two people I knew were not on the plane which hit the Pentagon. I was wrong.

Getting ready for work listening to the Bob and Tom Morning show. Thought it could have been a joke until I turned on the tv.

I was asleep and my 16 yr old son woke me up saying, "Mom, there blowing up the world trade center." It took a few minutes of confusion to get up, walk into the tv room and see what was happening. I was glad I was safe and home, but i was worried about my husband who was a truckdriver. I didn't know if he was near the site.

I was in a meeting at work. At exactly the same time my husband called to tell me and the wife of one of my co-workers called too. I just remember having that feeling in the pit of my stomach, sadness that people had died but did not realize how large of a tragedy it was until we heard about the Pentagon.
