I'd go with Zelda for overall quality but Pokemon for length. Zelda really takes advantage of the DS but it's a little short, Pokemon is pretty much what you'd expect but you can play it forever.
Personally I'd pick Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker over Pokemon but it's not really everyone's cup of tea.
