The drums are the backbone.
The heart is the guitar and the voice is the soul, but the drums are the backbone....
True statement or not?

Your thoughts?

I would say that between them, the drums and the bass are both the backbone and the heartbeat.

And the guitar can be the soul just as much as the voice can.

As a musician, I have always known that a back beat is the most important chunk of a band. This is traditionally both the bass and the drums sewn together. Best example free association: Talking Heads. I can't separate the two; one without the other is just incomplete to my ears. But yeah, I can see the drums being the backbone if the bass can be the spinal chord - how's that?

Yes, the drums are the backbone. Without it, songs just sound kind of empty. Same thing with bass, which I would personally call the soul, but whatever. You can have 10 guitars, but without any kind of rhythm section, you are just making noise, not music.

not exactly. the drums are more like the feet. its in control, decides where everything else goes. chooses how fast to run and whether to jog or skip or dance or trip.

the guitar is the arms. grabs and holds things.
bass is the head, helping the feet decide where to go. (and nodding to the beat)
the voice is the face expression.

violin is the eyes. nothing shows the mood more.
and keyboard is the hips/torso, just in the middle of it all.

(only valid for songs with these instruments)

The drums along with the bass are the drive train of every good Rock and Roll song.

So very true-----If your drummer can't play---the rest just doesn't fall into place.

I went to hear a band & the drummer didn't show--and this guy sat in that couldn't really play and they sucked!!!!!

Drums ARE the BACKBONE!!!!

Not always necessarily for the drums. Many folk and acoustic songs do not have drums and look where they got.

But then again, I'm not good with all this metaphorical stuff.

I've noticed that when people only choose one instrument to sing with it is either the drums...(beat box), guitar, or piano... I Think those three are essential... the piano/ keyboard can come or go... whatever... Kisses!

Considering I'm not a musician (and have no musically ability what so ever) it's hard for me to say, but from what I'm aware of, it really is. And my friend's in a band (gutarist) and it's quite entertaining to watch the whole band mess up once their drummer drops his sticks.....
