But too much of it drives me mad with boredom

I love my own company. Think it stems from being an only child. I had to play on my own most of the time!
I find, as I waddle past middle age, I value my special time alone. It is not as much as I would like but I luxuriate at every opportunity.

Yes! Absolutely! I think that if you CAN'T be alone or feel the undying need to be around others ALL THE TIME, I think you have serious issues. However, being alone too much can be a problem, too, which can lead to depression and self doubt and other psychoses. It's important to not only learn how to love and live with yourself, but also interact with others. Personal space is important, even moreso in relationships...

I find time to myself necessary as a writer, but that does not necessitate liking my own company; I feel fortunate, however, that I do. The practice of spending some time alone may well have led to more comfort in that regard.
I also enjoy my time with others -- a balance is important to me.

I do. I think its as important to growth as social interaction. If I am not comfortable with myself, and I cannot discover a remedy for the anomaly, then I am not looking at the real issue. I can learn a lot from others but I learn just as much from trying to capture myself.

Yes, sometimes it is nice to be alone. But too much of solitude can drive you mad. An evening with friends is necessary sometimes, too.
