I'm in a marriage I definitely want to end. We have one son and he is 18 yrs. old. I know that a divorce can be a bit pricey and if you knew my wife she wants everything especially the house. One of the main raesons we're splitting is because of her (bitching and ) alcoholism. Right now I'm not in a financial position to pay a lawyer but I still don't want to be around her either. I have thought of getting my own little place until I get it all together. What course should I take and is separation a good idea? Thanks guys.

Separation is the best choice if you are really miserable & don't want to work things out.

First thing, how is your son handling this?
That's a tough age for him to also be going through what his mom is doing.
If you have tried everything in your power to make this marriage work and it won't then divorce sounds inevitable.
Why don't you just do your own thing and get out and do more with your son?
At least for awhile.
This way, you won't be around her as much to hear it. Yes, I know she'll start up when you get home, but tell her to shut up or get out.
Tell her if she's not happy then she needs to leave.
Oh she'll come back w/ "you'd like that wouldn't you? you think I'm going to make it easy on you?

Go talk to a divorce lawyer, they have them out there based on a scale of your income.
They also give free 30 minute consoltations so write all your questions down and see at least 3 to 5 of them.
You might be able to get her on something if she's a violent alcoholic, it's worth a try and what's she doing is mental abuse but you have to prove it.
A lawyer can provide some good advise.

try to get your own place even if its a apartment just for the time being.. why make yourself miserable for someone else you only have 1 life ..
