A good question to ask, you know, for people that I want to talk to. I started at a new school last year, and there's someone that I decided that I wanted to become friends with this year, so what do I say to them that makes me seem worldly and intelligent? It might be a bit awkward, because me and this person never talk, so how would I go about approaching them and asking questions and learning things about their personality? Like, for instance, today I asked this person what sense they'd give up and we had a good chat, but we were alone. I can't just walk up to this person in class when they're around all their friends - it would be awkward. I'm simply looking for casual comments to drop by to this person.
Only friends. I don't want to seem intrusive at all.

I know who this person is. They are in half of my classes. I guess they're what you'd call "a classmate" but nothing more. I just want to up the level of talking that we do. And we are on good terms. I'm a junior in high school, by the way. I liked the very first one. Very cute. Thanks.

I was always very shy - and I spent a lot of time studying comedy - I got 20-30 books on writing comedy, etc. it did a lot for me, and usually I am able to use humor to break the ice with people, and it helps a great deal. You have to listen to others to learn what is important to them, and then you can learn an appropriate joke for the person. It takes time.

like I just went to this project management conference, the other people there don't know that I'm on disability and I haven't worked in 5 years, and someone asked me "how did you get to be a project manager" my reply was "I got where I am today due to a large quantity of hot air" - everyone laughed, and it helped break the tension.. and then it went well from there. but it takes a while to learn what kind of jokes might be appropriate, and you learn that by falling on your face a few times.

Tell this person that since you are new to the school, you would like to know if there are any study groups, social clubs or ?. Ask this person for his/her ideas on how to get to know classmates and how to make friends.

You can make a compliment or offer some gum or try to talk to somseone in the area she's in about television or something you think she might find interesting and see if she'll join in the conversation.

"Hey, do I know you?" and then just go from there... if you are close to them in class, ask if they have the homework. if you hear what they are talking about to each other, pipe in and give your two cents. more than likely, they're not going to tell u to shut up. say something witty and funny... they will laugh, and than you can go from there.

don't overthink it. if you don't talk to them enough, they're gonna know you're scared/ are rude. neither will help you

smile and be like, "hey, what's up? i like your shoes. you wanna know something weird that happened yesterday...? "
