my friend is going to Machu Picchu this summer and has invited me to go with her and her family. Going there is one of my dreams but it will cost about $2,000 and that's pretty much all of my savings! What should i do!?

I also want to say that I'm not that old. it would be a sacrifice But it is possibly a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Well, even though Madame got a thumbs down, I'd have to agree with her. Believe me, there are a lot of different reasons not to go. The number one reason of course is that this is your entire life savings. Vacations should be a reward for goals accomplished and should be paid for with extra money you have, not your entire life savings!!!!!!!!!
Another reason is that it's also possible to go to Machu Picchu virtually and immerse yourself in this place online and you don't have to spend anything. I've been to a lot of places. I know that all of them are still there and I can visit them any time. I do not have a spend anything to enjoy all these places.
I hope you keep your savings for something more important, and when you really need it, and wait to go traveling until you can really afford to go. Keep saving!!!!!!!!!!

I went to Machu Picchu and I can't wait to go and visit again. It's like a magical place.. You wonder how these Inca Indians did to construct this beautiful city on such a high mountain!!!
As per Webster's Geographical Dictionary: "Ma-ch Pic-chu: Site of ancient Inca city on a mountain in the Andes. North West of Cuzco, Peru; fairly extensive ruins include a temple; citadel was surrounded by terraced gardens; discovered by Hiram Bingham 1911".
I don't know how old are you nor if you like nature, but if I am given the opportunity to visit Machu Picchu, I wouldn't think it twice, specially with family. Save money and make it happen.
This additional information I found in Wikipedia. Hope it helps you decide. Good luck!
Machu Picchu (Quechua: Machu Pikchu, "Old Peak") is a pre-Columbian Inca site located at 2,430 meters (7,970 ft) above sea level[1] on a mountain ridge above the Urubamba Valley in Peru, about 70 km (44 mi) northwest of Cusco. Often referred to as "The Lost City of the Incas", Machu Picchu is probably the most familiar symbol of the Inca Empire. It was built around the year 1450 and abandoned a hundred years later, at the time of the Spanish conquest of the Inca Empire. Forgotten for centuries by all except for a few locals, the site was brought to worldwide attention in 1911 by Hiram Bingham, an American historian. Since then, Machu Picchu has become an important tourist attraction, it was declared a Peruvian Historical Sanctuary in 1981 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983.
Machu Picchu was built in a classic Inca architectural style of polished dry-stone walls. Its primary buildings are the Intihuatana, the Temple of the Sun and the Room of the Three Windows located in what is known by archaeologist as the Sacred District of Machu Picchu. There are concerns about the impact of tourism to the site as its visitors reached 400,000 in 2003. On September 2007, Peru and Yale University reached an agreement regarding return of artifacts removed from Macchu Picchu in the early 20th century by Hiram Bingham.

don't spend your savings for that trip. the place will always be there for you now and in the future when you can really afford to visit it. go when you can afford to travel and enjoy that vacation instead of hurting everytime you let go of every dime you saved.
