in college, i did cobol, c, c++, java. With regards to jobs now and in the future, which of those is best to pursue further?
My personal fave was c, but im guessing that doesnt have a good future.

we also covered jsp and asp.net (with vb.net) for creating websites, so not sure if thats a better direction to go in?

appreciate some opinions, thanks

Most of my recent graduates (I teach computer science) say that there is a huge demand for Java and C#. So you're in pretty good shape but it wouldn't hurt at all to get some C# and .NET experience if you can. COBOL is about dead; most of my friends who were COBOL programmers are either in or done with COBOL-to-Java conversions and now do most of their coding in Java. Sadly, C and C++ are fading fast in the business sector.

My field of expertise in programming is Visual Basic. But nowadays, most applications are connected in the Information Superhighway which is the internet, so i'd prefer ASP.NET/C#/VB.NET.

If you are fresh out of college, do't look beyond C. When you are really good with C and a potential employer is impressed with your C knowledge, you'll find things easier. I say C since you say it is your favourite.

With deep C knowledge, you can get away with very less knowledge on other programming languages.
