I found a 1913 D penny, but it's pretty rough. Those are rare aren't they?

You have a Lincoln Cent. They were designed by Victor D. Brenner. As Taiping said the mintage was 15,804,000. I believe your coin either grades Ag or G your coins value is a little over a dollar. I hope this helps answer your question.

The 1913-D had a mintage of 15,804,000 so it is not that scarce. It is worth around a dollar in the condition you state. The coins scarce back in the teens was the S mint marked ones.

One day the coins will be worth a lot. Keep collecting them and past down to younger generations and the coin will be an antique one day. You could probably sell them one day for a high price.
