You should have a specific theory here really, but the reason people believe them is because:
They make sense
Someone is hiding something so any idea is as good a guess as anyone can really give
Reasons not to believe them:
Stubborn devotion to the truth as you know it
Facts don't always add up
People write it off as "just the liberals", despite that they're completely misusing the word at least half the time.
It really depends on opinion and views as well as the theory itself. A well built conspiracy theory will seem as solid as the truth.

i believe in conspiracy theories because I believe that the world has a conspiracy against all that aren't "normal". Let me tell you something..."normal" does NOT exist!! ;)

I generally don't, as if they were true, they would be better covered-up, and hidden murders, et al.
Also, any racially tinged ones are lies intended to stir people up. Specifically ones about Jews, as those are the 'classics'.
