He has already stated that if the US interferes, he will suspend sale of oil to the USA. If that happens will our gas prices triple? Or do you think its just hard talk?

By "the US interefering," it means if he loses, and there's a very real possibility of this, if the opposition can get their voters out there. Even so, there are no observers from the European Union or from other organizations that have been at previous elections, so for anyone to think that this will be a fair referendum, they're full of it.

I don't think he's dumb enough not to realize that if he cuts off oil sales to the US, he will eventually slit his own throat. A lot of this is scare tactics against his own people so that they give him essentially unlimited and unanswerable power, where he'll still threaten every chance he gets to cut off oil to the US. But his country cannot survive without oil revenue, and his socialist revolution fails without it. If he loses and carries through with the threat, expect oil prices to spike big time until other OPEC nations essentially step up and replace some of the lost oil.

The US cannot, however, ever kow-tow to this lunatic. He's getting desperate, and he's seeing real opposition in his country for the first time. Many of the proposals he has are, in his words, meant only to give more power to the people, but how are the people served if he is allowed to seize property and suspend civil liberties during "times of emergencies" (when every situation will be an emergency)? Some people are finally seeing through this, even former allies of his, and his time may be running out.

We get about 20% of our oil from Venezuala. That could easily be replaced by shutting up the do-gooders and drilling the Anwar. If he losses, maybe Danny Glover and Sean Penn will stay to continue to kiss his a$$ and make him feel better.

If Chaves loses the election, then he can't do anything (if I'm not mistaken).

And if he doesn't, and he still cuts off the oil, then it's time for us to seriously look at alternatives.
