I have an autograph of a very famous sports person, and I am considering selling it. How would I know if I was getting a genuine autograph and not a forgery? The particular autograph I am speaking of would not be difficult to forge as it is quite simple.

The best way is to have a picture of the person signing it while you are also holding it. Since it is easy to forge, how do you know it is real? Unless it is backed by a certificate of authenticity from a reputable company it will be suspect. You also have to be suspect about any certificate of authenticity. How do I know that this is really you asking the question.pp

You have to be very careful when buying autographs. As of auto thentics, I have never heard of them. I would send it in to PSA/DNA but of course that will cost because of shipping, and the fee they will charge you. For future reference, i don't reccomend buying off of ebay because anyone could come up with a cathchy company name then make a decent looking COA on their computer.

I suggest using one of the well-known authentication companies:

www.psadna.com
www.globalauthentication.net
www.spenceloa.com
