It's a lack of confidence in the man. Men feel they need to be big and strong and take the lead and be the man...yet many are not up to the task, and being such little fish themselves, they look for the tiniest ponds to play in.

Submissive does NOT mean subservient. It means that a wife trusts her husband enough to make the right decisions, even when they're difficult ones. It means that the husband values his wife's opinion, weighs it, and then decides.

Submission is a wonderful thing! It's very freeing and very secure. And it makes for a wonderfully strong home and family. I think a lot of young women have the impression that submission equals contention -- it's quite the opposite. Submission is peace in practice.

im a naturally bossy person... im not bossy to degrade ppl...it is just my nature. i do not need to yell to get my point..or my voice across. it naturally emits authority. but i am not a dominant type person. i only speak when needed and to make a point and i hate repeating myself.

but i do have acceptions...i will kindly repeat myself for those who may not understand me...such as the elderly, handicapped, or children.

but in my opinion as a woman i do not see submissive men as attractive...but neither would i wish for someone who wishes complete dominance over me either.

i can be submissive in some situations..and it would not bother me....but to be completely submissive when it is really not who i am would be going against my already bossy nature.

this has nothing to do with a feminist nature...i have been this way all my life..even before i knew what a feminist was..and i was this way as a feminist..and i am still this way as a non feminist.

it will not change.

I cannot tell you what makes a dominant man tick as I am not one but perhaps I can give some perspective and correct some misconceptions .
a person who is submissive in a relationship is not necessarily weak. a lot of times submissive women have jobs where they are in a dominant position. they have to give orders and make decisions all day long . They are in charge of people and money. They may enjoy their work a lot. but they need a way to let go when they get home. these women have to be fierce and assertive all day. their mate may be the only person they do not have to be strong around. also some women want a man who is perhaps a bit smarter than them. My boyfriend always tells me that the best way to get better at anything. chess, guitar, kung fu- anything is to do it with someone who is better than you. that is how you grow.

I don't think most dominant men are looking for a weak woman. they want a smart woman that they can talk to. They want a women who is fierce in every other aspect of her life but chooses to submit to him. a man may consider it a great honor that she chooses him as the person she trusts enough to be vulneralble with. An insecure man could never handle such a responsibility.

Simple, some men like having total control, just like some women like submissive men.

All a matter of how you were raised really. If you had controlling parents, chances are you'll grow up to be a controlling person. If your mother was submissive to your father, chances are you'll see women the same way too. You can always try to change or fight the tendencies you were taught/picked up subconsciously as a child, but it'll always be hiding somewhere deep in your psyche.

My hubby wants me obedient, yet at the same time he doesn't want me submissive; meaning he doesn't want me cowering in some corner every time he lays eyes on me; he wants someone who moves/thinks freely that does what they're told when they're told to do it. Besides; let's use some common sense here; no woman in her right mind wants to be bossed around; I know I don't and I do exactly what my husband tells me to do; no questions asked and not one word of complaint has/is ever going to come out of my mouth either; now that's more like it.

I don't even know, all the guys I know either like a girl who's way weaker than them or in equal power. I think that's pretty stupid though, if his self esteem is that low, he needs to withdraw from dating and work on his personal worth.

I don't understand the attraction of having such a relationship. I don't need a man to tell me how to act, how I should dress, what friends I should have, how many children I should have, and whether I can hold a job. I'm quite capable of making those decisions for myself. I view marriage as a partnership between two adults, not one where one person has absolute power over the other. To an earlier poster, I do have the intellect to run my own life. I don't need to be led around like a child. I'll bet you're one of those people who believes that women should go jump off of a cliff if their husband tells them to do it. With your attitude, it's no wonder you know so little about women.
