About 5 days ago these cicadas appeared and have invaded all of our gum trees on our property. The sound is horrific and my ears are hurting i have noticed dead shells on the trees, we have never had a problem like this. I'm hoping they die soon as i have read that they only last a few weeks before dieing. Can anybody help

Those shells aren't dead cicadas, they are a sort of chrysalis. Cicadas nymphs start out beetle like and then grow wings very much like a butterfly. It won't be long before they are gone and you won't be bothered by their singing until next season, but do expect to hear them anywhere between 2-6 weeks depending on the species. I personally enjoy listening to them, but to each his/her own, right? Hang in there. It's almost over.
Good Luck

You must be Austrailia! Cicadas will be around for the whole summer well-2months- they come every 17 years and the males call the females to mate, you will see holes in the ground at the base of the trees about a half inch around where they emerge and then climb the tree and start there terrible serenades!

One answer was "ask a lawyer" ... if you have to, do it. I'd exhaust free resources at your city or county level first, as someone else mentioned. Call your homeowner's insurance... they might be able to provide you some information to avoid paying out a claim down the road on a new fence and sprinklers... The question I have is, how do you know it's YOUR fence? Is it built far enough inside your property (which of course you had surveyed prior to buying) that there are no area of overlap? You bought the property knowing there was a problem, so I guess you expected to be hiring a lawyer...
