The thing is that I do not think would form a triangle.But the sides are in inches anyways.

Ok many people confirmed what I thought. The book had those numbers in the problem too so I really do not know what to make my answer.

This would form a straight line so the area is 0. Notice how the two shorter sides add up exactly to the length of the longest side. Try drawing it.

Normally, given just the sides of a triangle, you would figure the area using Heron's formula.

First figure the semi-perimeter (add the lengths, divide by 2)
s = (45 + 20 + 25) / 2
s = 90 / 2
s = 45

Now Heron's formula says:
Area = √[ (s)(s - a)(s - b)(s - c) ]

In your example:
A = √[ (45)(45 - 45)(45 - 20)(45 - 25) ]
A = √(45 x 0 x 25 x 20)
A = √0
A = 0

----------
Just for the fun of it... here's a *real* example of computing area of a triangle using Heron's formula. I'll use sides of 3, 4 and 5.

(Note: you and I know this is a right triangle, but that's not necessary to use the formula. The area of a triangle is ½bh and in a right triangle the legs will be the base and the height. The area will be ½(3 x 4) = 6. I just mention this so we can confirm if the answer from Heron's formula comes out the same...)

Okay, back to the formula:
s = (3 + 4 + 5) / 2
s = 12 / 2 = 6

Area = √[ (6)(6 - 3)(6 - 4)(6 - 5) ]
A = √(6 x 3 x 2 x 1)
A = √36
A = 6

So that shows that Heron's formula works. You are ready to use it next time, when you are given a *real* triangle...

But for your question the "triangle" with sides of 45, 20 and 25 is not a triangle, just as you surmised. It is a line and has an "area" of 0.

in the initiating, your factors are forty 8 and 12. on the grounds which you're reducing out squares, your new factors may be forty 8-2x and 12-2x. The equation for the quantity is LWH, for this reason your L is forty 8-2x, your W is 12-2x, and your H is particularly x. V = (forty 8-2x)(12-2x)(x) = 4x^3-120x^2+576x the floor self-discipline could desire to be the self-discipline of each and every part extra on an identical time. If we evaluate spatially approximately this, there are 4 factors and a million backside. 2 gadgets of things are an identical, for this reason: 2(section a million) + 2(section 2) + backside 2((x)(forty 8-2x)) + 2((x)(12-2x)) + ((forty 8-2x)(12-2x)) artwork that and you will regulate into attentive to that fairly some the words cancel, which leaves you with A=576-4x^2. the section for the situation spoke of in A could be graphed on a calculator, or you will particularly tell which you fairly choose each and each and all the factors clever (in any distinctive case it does no longer make a field). So the shortest part is 12-2x. it is 0 on an identical time as x=6, so your max is 6. Your min is for particular 0 as though the right have been 0, you could desire to no longer have a field the two. to examine the quantity at x=3, particularly plug it into the favored equation spoke of above: V = 4x^3-120x^2+576x = 4(3^3) - a hundred twenty(3^2) + 576(3) = 756 cubic inches. choose it facilitates!

The dimensions given will not form a triangle. The sum of two sides must be greater than the third for a triangle to form. In this case the sum of 20 and 25 is not greater than 45.

There is a formula you can use to find the area of a triangle given the sides. It's called the Heron's Formula.

s = (a + b + c) / 2

a, b and c are your sides. s stands for semiperimeter.

The actual formula is:

Perimeter = the square-root of [s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c)]

In your case, the get s:

(45 + 20 + 25) / 2 = s
s = 45

Perimeter = square-root of [45(45-45)(45-20)(45-25)]
Perimter = 0 inches.

Therefore, it's not a triangle.

To find area by using three sides (a,b,c), you can use Hero's formula
A = sqrt(s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c)) where s = (a+b+c)/2

s = (45+20+25)/2 = 45
A=sqrt(45(45-45)(45-20)(45-25))
A = sqrt(0)
A = 0

so you are right, it does not make a triangle in the first place. two smallest sides have to add to be larger than the longest side.

Since you do not have the altitude (height), you will need to use trig.

This site shows how, but I think you need the measure of an angle. Good Luck.
