I'm going to use substitution.

2y = -4x
4x + 2y = -11

Start with the first equation:
2y = -4x
Divide both sides by 2 in order to solve for y:
y = -2x
Now plug that y into the second equation:
4x + 2(-2x) = -4x
And solve for x:
4x - 4x = -11
0 = -11
This is not true so there are no solutions to this system of equations.

Use substitution:

For (2y = -4x) try to get y by itself. by dividing everything by 2 so you'll get:
y = -2x

Now:

4x + 2y = -11

Because y = -2x (from the above equation), you can replace the y's from from (4x + 2y = -11) with -2x so you'll get:

4x + 2(-2x) = -11

Solve this with basic algebra:

4x - 4x = -11

Now 4x - 4x is simply ZERO so this problem has no solution.

Manipulate the first equation, 2y=-4x.

y=-2x

Substitute this into the second equation.
4x+2(-2x)=-11
4x+-4x=-11
0=-11

This is a false statement, therefore the answer is "no solution."

One of the equations is incorrect, because substitution gives an absurd result. Is it possible that the 1st equation is actually y = -4x? If that is the case, or any other change in either of the equations would yield a solution by substitution.

2y = -4x
2y/2 = -4x/2
y = -2x

4x + 2y = -11
4x + 2(-2x) = -11
4x -4x = -11
0 = -11

You can't solve this system because the two equation do not intersect each other.

Hope this helps :)

1) 2y = -4x
4x + 2y = 0

2) 4x + 2y = -11

2y = -4x
2y / 2 = -4x/2
y = -2x

4x + 2y = -11
4x + 2y - 4x = -11 - 4x
2y /2 = -11/2 - 4x/2
y = -11/2 - 2x

There's no answer.

If

2y=-4x
4x+2y=-11

So:

2y+4x = 0
2y+4x = -11

which is inconsistent , therefore no solution.

y=x+2.......(i) y=3x-2......(ii) from (i) we get x+2=y => x=y-2..........(iii) putting the value x=y-2 in (ii) y=3(y-2)-2 => y=3y-6-2 => y-3y=-8 =>-2y=-8 => 2y=8 (the two facets multiply by using -a million) => y=8/2 => y=4 putting value y=4 in (iii) we get x=4-2 x=2 so x=2 and y=4
