Try to think about chemistry questions more simply first, and then you should think about them broadly. The reason you are probably having trouble is because you are trying to think about the question as a whole. Break the question down into little parts and it will be much more simpler.
Yes, it will require a knowledge of chemistry, but for the most part, if you break down each question, you will discover that you will understand more.
