Does anyone know where to buy an infant snow suit of coat of some kind. I just had a baby on sunday. She currently only weighs just under 5 1/2 lbs so to put her in a 0-3 month snowsuit is a joke. Her head doesnt fit comfortably in the neck portion and the hood is like 3 times bigger than her head so it does no good. I havent found anywhere that sells actual newborn or premie sizes in something like this and I in north dakota so it's already frostbite type weather. I have to take her to doctor's appointments and things at the least and I feel sorry just using lots of blankets and covering her carseat because I think it's probably still pretty cold. Any ideas would be great.

I'd actually suggest getting a car seat cover instead. You can't put a snowsuit on the baby and then buckle them into the car seat because then the straps aren't tight enough. A car seat cover keeps the baby toasty warm without compromising safety, plus you don't have to worry about baby outgrowing it. Here's a link to a bunch, we had the one by Kiddapotomus thats #5. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/102-1838217-3860918?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=infant+seat+cover&x=0&y=0

Im not sure if you have a babies r us near you, but they have a special preemie section. But what I do with my son, hes 5 months, I dont actually use a snow suit. Only because he is going straight from the warm house, to the warm car, then I have someone drop me off at the door. I put a long sleeve onsie and pants or a warm sleeper, then I put a pram or a blanket sleeper over that, and put a hat on him. I cover him with a really warm fuzzy blanket, the put another really warm blanket over the carrier. I mean, they are only outside for seconds when their that young and its that cold. Just make sure you have someone drop you off at the door. Its frost bite weather here too. And he doesnt get cold at all that way. So if you have no luck finding a preemie snow suit, then put a very warm outfit on her, with a blanket sleeper over that, and make sure you use 2 blankets, a very warm one over her, then another over the carrier. And get a very warm hat, then you wouldnt need the snow suit. Plus, she wont use the preemie snow suit for very long at all, and those at not cheap by no means.

Its also actually alot easier that way, because then they wont sweat, you can un bundle them in the car, instead of trying to take off the snow suit.

Call your doctor's office and ask them for suggestions. Children have been known to be flung out of car seats during a crash while the snowsuit remains in the car seat.

I live in MN, so I understand your dilemma. Many around here use those carseat covers previous poster mentioned to keep baby toasty while in the car.

I live in northwest Florida so it doestn STAY cold but we get to below freezing temps here as well. With a newborn I find it better to just bundle with blankets, as they will be too warm int eh car in a snowsuit. If you WANt the suit though, I saw some in Kmart at newborn sizes.

For 3-5 lbs

Best bet is to find something on the internet by searching through google or yahoo and then get it overnighted... Until then Just layer and use a thermal blanket. Don't forget those all over car seat covers (like these http://baby.search.ebay.com/infant-car-seat-cover_Car-Seat-Accessories_W0QQsacatZ66693) they will hold in heat very well! I could probably give you mine - I live in San Diego and will never use it ;)

My daughter was born in January. I didn't bother with any winter clothing for her except for a hat. I wore her in a wrap-style sling, zipped my coat up over both of us, and popped the hat on her head. She stayed warm and cozy, and it was so much easier to carry her that way than to lug around a heavy, awkward carseat.
