No way, Jose.

Saddam didn't even qualify as a mosquito in international financial circles. Even if a major power wanted to mess up our economy, that would be a very difficult task. There are so many checks and balances, and too many countries with vested interest in our financial health. They would never allow it to happen.

For example, the British and the Japanese are staunch allies, and both have bought up a lot of our debt. If our economy went into severe recession, that would be bad for their investment.

Saddam couldn't even touch money he had put in international accounts. He was like a neutered cat, without even claws.

Isn't it funny that Saddam had the power, but it took a Bush to bring the Middle Class tumbling down via stagflation and zero growth in personal incomes? Whatta card, that W!

No he had no reason to. Steve Bush and the Bush family, with the Savings and Loan scandal have effed the economy up beyond recognition.

How quickly we forget that a Bush was responsible for the national deficit.

Whether or not he did, even the democrats admitted that they thought he had weapons of mass distruction. Leaving him alive wasn't a chance we could have afforded. If he had the power, he sure as hell doesn't anymore and even if he didn't, look at what he did to his own people. Rape rooms, gas chambers and the chemical weapons he used to commit geonocide. Is this really a person you want alive?

Well... the Americans invaded Iraq and now look at the state of their economy! He certainly had an indirect effect on it. Whether he would have had the power to screw it up this much or more acting alone, I don't know.

I've heard that one of the broo-ha-has of getting him deposed in a hurry was that he wanted to switch his currency to Euros. Just imagine the implications if that would have happened. The Euro has skyrocketed in value compared to the American dollar.
