I am laying ceramic tile at my front entrance, a small area approx. 30 sq. feet. There is a squeaky spot in the floor - would DITRA be a solution to avoid cracked grout?

You have to tighten up your subfloor before you put any underlayment down. Do not ever tile over just plywood. Ditra will not correct problems in the subfloor however Ditra is fine to use once you correct the subfloor.

You may have to take up a section of the subfloor to find the squeak or it could be a matter of screwing down the floor tighter.

if the floor is flexing and there in no floor joist to nail/screw down that area, you must support it from underneth the floor with a brace(2x6) or access it from the top ie. rip open floor add support then lay down plywood, then tile. no need for backer board in an entrance just quality thin set and a sturdy floor.

I use hardi backer for tile to avoid cracks in the tiles as well as the grout.
