my nearly 9 month old is having a growth spurt and teething pains at the same time. this has resulted in him being very hungry and sleepy, but refusing to eat or sleep. the result is a very grumpy baby. what can i do? i've given him baby motrin once today, but i don't like to over-medicate him. i tried some teething medicine, but it really made no difference. does anybody have any good advice?

i have done that. :)

it's more the combination of both growing pains and teething pain.

Give this a try...take a hot water bottle and lay this on your lap and then him on top of it...the heat just might make him relax
enough to fall asleep.

My youngest is 4 months old and just got his first 2 teeth. I rubbed his gums and it made him feel better. I also don't like to medicate for every little problem, but you gotta feel bad for babies--teething must hurt like hell! I used baby Orajel and tylenol once or twice a day.

at bedtime I used baby Motrin and orajel to get her to sleep. During the day I use orajel and let her chew on frozen waffles and peas, fruit bars, I froze pudding and yogurt. froze teething rings, if u can find the ones u can freeze its hard to do but I found some at the dollar store. Any thing cold to eat my little one liked at meal time.
Good luck

all the above ideas are really good and some of them do work. i dont know what it is called, but i know they have them at walmart in the baby section. it's pretty much a chew toy that is shaped like a star with a handle, and it vibrates when it is chewed on. my kids loved them and they worked really well for me. hope this helps the little one out, and good luck

What I did was wet a washcloth put in freezer then gave to my daughter. My mom told me to also give her a green onion and it also works and she love them. She is still teething and I do the geen onions now she is 11 months.

Poor baby (and mom!). If he can handle them, frozen peas and frozen blueberries are great for teethers. Do you have a sling? If so, carrying him in it for a while, or going for a walk if you can, might soothe him and get him to sleep for a bit.

Good luck!

Dampen a washcloth and place it in teh freezer or refrigerator. Let him gnaw on it. IT MAY help.
