Charity : I whole-heartedly agree, but that really doesn't answer my question.

Good link. I've read some of these statements elsewhere, but I hadn't seen them put together like this.
Thanks. It wasn't what I expected to see.
Oh, and in answer to your question, I believe most of them were deists, but not Mike Huckabee type "Christians." Jefferson was a skilled user of rhetoric, and he knew how to pick his words, but he was quite nearly what is now known as an agnostic. Most of these men were practical and pragmatic, and I think worried less about the afterlife than about the impact of our behavior on this life.

There were some Christians, some Agnostics, Deists and even Atheists. The constitution makes reference to a Creator but nothing more.

THEY WERE CHRISTAINS
and this country WAS FOUNDED on the BIBLE
and the Founding Fathers did not have seperation of Church and state but rather said the state should be held in check by the church..........not the other way around....
Again mans foolishness to TRUTH rather the accept its Facts through History and even the very declaration of independence.....shows its voice of a people dedicated for the Bible to be held in highest regard and it was then and should be now the basis of Life / Law / and Schools / and Churches.........
Sad to say it went away back then by non-believers who wouldnt retain God in thier knowledge........same as it is today !!!!

Yes they were. All offices in government, read some of their letters and writings presidents and congressmen as well as various leaders always spoke of references to bible verses and prayers. Look back to history books Jefferson and others they were talking to man and God in their writings and making prayers as they went.

Many were but they didn't want to impose there beliefs on the Constitution and what not. The "In God we Trust" and "one nation under God" were added in way after.

Yes they were Christians. .For what other reason do you think they insisted that the Bill of Rights include Freedom of Religion. That had it there to protect that status and to make sure no one takes their religion away.
