I think from a historical point of view it is very interesting ...

and WTF is billy raving on about ? Howard WAS still PM at this election and he lost his seat so I find Billy's reasoning PERCULIAR .. ?? I mean the seat was Liberal because Howard was PM and that's why the seat remained Liberal BUT now it's a Safe Labor seat even though the sitting member at the time of the election was PM .. ( by Billy's reasoning Howard STILL should have won >?????? weird perculiar and just crazy)

BUT back to your question ...

Not only is Maxine McKew the second person only to ever win the seat off a Prime Minister .. BUT she is the ONLY WOMAN to do so ...

Will she maintian it .. who knows .. BUT Johnny should have retired a few years back.

She won a labor seat. WHAT A SURPRISE. Bennelong with its changing demography and new boundaries has been a labor seat for the last few elections, the only thing keeping it in liberal hands was the fact that John Howard was the prime minister and local member.
It is common knowledge that Howard was the only person in the country that could have won the seat for the liberal party and he came up just short of winning.
Bennelong is now recognised as a safe labor seat and will probably stay that way for a long time to come.

For II Jenny - I will spell it out for you, The changes in the boundaries and the type of people living in Bennelong has meant that the "make up" of the voters in Bennelong has changed over the last 30 years.
The demography or types of people who live there now would normally vote labor, but they haven't at the last few elections, instead voting to retain a prime minister rather than electing a nothing backbencher. This is what makes Bennelong a "Labor" seat.
The voters changed their mind at this election due to a high profile (yet useless) labor candidate and not wanting to have to vote again soon if Howard lost the election and retired straight away.
If you went to the ABC election website before the poll you would have noticed that some of the swings since the 04 election had changed simply because of boundary changes. One seat was even listed as labor even though there was a sitting Liberal member, This was due to redistribution alone.
This point is recognised by ALL political commentators.
If you don't understand politics or the political system go and answer questions somewhere else as your response here only made you look ignorant and uneducated.

The electorate will deeply regret this mistake when after the Happy Howard years they will be hit by the Rocky Rudd years. They will regret it when inflation, unemployment and interest rates will rise fare beyond the level what John Howard left for us. John Howard was the prime minister for all Australians. Kevin Rudd will be the PM for the union bosses and the privileged party inner circle.
