I'm writing a speech about the two party system and I've been told to research Presidents who were held back by a Congress dominated by the opposite political party. (Ex. A Republican President with a Democratics dominating Congress) If anyone knows of one I'd really appreciate it.

As much as I'm planning on getting involved in politics in the near future, I'm honestly not too into it now. I'm writing it for school so I really don't have many topics to choose from so I chose something I knew would help in the future. I know that its not the best topic but I'm sort of a lazy-ish perfectionist so I have to find simple ways to get thorough research, this is sort of like my filter to narrow stuff down.

Do not use Bush as an example.

He has an opposing congress but has changed many things, sadly for the worse. He has helped foster more terrorism in the world, decreased the earths population by thousands through war, help cause world opinion of the US to decline, and many other horrible things.

Look up Jimmy Carter. I'm not sure about a Republican congress dominating him(He was a Democrat from 1976 to 1980) I do know that he wasn't able to do much of anything including interacting with foreign leaders. Very bright man, but very ineffective. Good luck.

Look at Woodrow Wilson and his inability to get the League of Nations treaty ratified by a Republican led Congress.
His unwillingness to work with or compromise with the House and Senate created a political impasse he could not overcome.

You should write a speech about presidents who deceive a country's citizens into backing a war by telling outright lies despite the facts because contractors who will benefit greatly financially from a war contributed enough money to his campaign to buy him off. You can also write how head of these companies such as Halliburton have made $100 million since the war began, or the head of Blackwater made $20 million in one year alone.
You can also tell about how after invading an oil-rich country, that president's administration put forth a proposal that would allow contractors to drill for oil for the next 30 years.
You can also mention that of the hundreds of billions of dollars that the president gets to finance that war, a large percentage of it goes directly into the pockets of these large contractors and corporations...the same people who financed the president's campaign when he ran for office.
You can also throw in the fact that at the same time these billions of dollars are being given to these private contractors, our troops are sleeping on the ground, having to go without flak jackets, having to go without enough armor on their vehicles, and having to settle for overpriced, subpar goods and services provided by the same contractors that the president and his administration have hired, instead of giving that money directly to the military to supply those troops sufficiently.
And while your at it, you can also mention that the media's stories on this corrupt, illegal practice of spilling billions of dollars into private contractors instead of giving it to the military is always pushed to the back pages of newspapers, or only gets a small mention on TV, despite the seriousness of it all.

Do some research and realize that if you did a speech on this topic, you would have a lot of true and reliable sources to back it up and prove that its true.

Clinton? He did have trouble in office because of the republicans and when he tried to get the medical bill passed that Hilary helped make they refused it.

Don't know about a president but Campbell Newman the Brisbane Lord Mayor (Australia) is currently having fun.

Campbell is a liberal mayor - but his council is predominantly labour, which means that he has great fun trying to get anything done.
