If we'd have listened to this guy, we would have pulled out and Osama bin Laden would be crowing to the world that he defeated America.
Now we are winning because we "stay the course" and Al Queida is destroyed in Iraq.
Is Sen. Murtha happy we are winnig? Or is he bitter about being so very wrong about wishing for America's defeat.

It defeats the Democratic base to win anything in Iraq or elsewhere. Sadly politics far out weighs common sense, dignity let alone our brave troops. Shameful.

I do think the surge has accomplished a lot of what it was intended to, as far as bringing down violence, but I remain unconvinced that "a free and independent Iraq is right around the corner." Despite the fact that violence has gone down, and at least created an environment where political progress could be made, it just seems to be at a standstill, all these factions have a lot to work out, and can the US help them, sure, but there's only so much we can do, a lot of it is on them. I'll freely admit that I made the wrong call on the surge, I thought it was hopeless, but I think after the mismanagement of the past three years we had reason to be cynical. And even though I never supported the invasion, I sincerely hope it works out for them, although I think that's very questionable. It may get to a point where we have done all we can do, we trained the army, fended off the terrorists, but political progress is a lot trickier. Well, regardless of who is the next President, I hope they go into it with an open mind.

Did Johhny on the spot Murtha really say that? REALLY? i wonder why he would say that after dis honoring our troops and be smirching our military just a few weeks ago? HMMMM lets see maybe its because his off the "cuff" remarks offended many Americans and even those in his party.------But i think its so he can deflect blame and attention away from his stupidity. It reflects the general "pathos" of the democrats say one thing one day say it a different way the next day. Its as maddening and confusing as Mr Murtha is.

He says the Military part of the Surge is working.
The Surge still has produce no results politically.
He and others know that this war cannot be one by the Military alone. The Iraqis must resolve things politically.
Congress must cutoff funds for this needless war.

We are losing a never ending battle. We did a fantastic job in the beginning but fell short with terriblr planning. But how can you plan to stop something thats been going on for centuries??? We should stay in there for political, and military purposes, but I just wish we would do it in a more effective manner that doesn't cost american lives.

Congressman( not Senator ) Murtha is attempting to jump to the other side of the argument because he was wrong. Politicians do it all the time.

Murtha is a dirty pig of a man. He finally got some attention by opposing the war and it went to his fat pig-like head. In the end, Bush will make an @ss out of him the way he does to all of his opponents.

More US forces in Iraq = More US resentment around the world = More terrorists around the world.
No matter how safe or stable Iraq becomes.
You can't kill an ideology.
Hope you're prepared for never-ending war.
