Your retainer was just a deposit, against which the shark deducts for his time and expenses. It does go really, really fast.

It depends on that attorney's billing system. In most cases, after you pay the retainer, you are still responsible for the fees and for whatever time the attorney and his or her staff spends on your case. Plus, depositions aren't cheap -- they require court reporters, they require papers to be filed and they require witnesses, all of which cost money (but the actual price varies depending on who your attorney hired and the local laws where the case is being heard). Plus, it takes time to prepare for a deposition and to actually have the deposition, so if you pay your attorney a certain amount per hour, then that will all be billed to you.

Depositions vary in cost. You pay for the following:

1. At least one lawyer for your side
2. A certified court reporter (the person who writes down everything that's said)
3. Some depositions are video tapped and you need a videographer if the depo goes on video.

Typically each witness will be deposed.

Lawsuits are very expensive. I'm sorry you have to deal with one.

Good luck.

First, verify that it is an actual bill. A lawyer will normally issue statements that show how the retainer money has been spent.

if it is an actual bill, you may have used up the retainer money.

How much a disposition will cost depends on the hourly rate of those involved (your lawyer, any staff) and how long the disposition took.

Depends on what the thief is going to wring out of you.
