America today is very different from America say, 50 years ago. Suddenly the Vietnam War happens, and everybody in America wimps out and we never finish a war again. Gen. G.S. Patton once said, "Americans love a winner, and will not tolerate a loser. That's why we have never and will never lose a war." That was in 1945 though. Now the majority of Americans don't care about anybody except their country, their lives, and their livlihood. Its all a competition for that promotion, that college scholorship, the team's MVP award, and its all out of spite and bragging. Why?

Hahaha Chinagirl I have a word of advice, if you have ever seen Star Wars, you'll no that it is unwise to upset a wookiee. New Yorkers are the same way. Just make sure that if you do insult our town, you will probably expect some very un-nice comments in return. hahaha

I do not mean to say that ALL of America has turned into a giant scrooge. But look at our economy, we import way too much and export way too little. And stuff like gas and other everyday items won't get any cheaper if that continues. Its like stealing from the cookie jar. You get addicted to oreos and throw a fit when their all gone. We do give plenty of humanitarian aid to several parts of the world. But when the going gets rough for our aid mission we say "Bye Bye!" What about freeing those people trapped in genocide?Somalia in the 1990s? Mr. Clinton said "lets help" then "whoops i changed my mind". How do you think that would feel? Freedom in your grasp only to be snuffed out by cowardice. Or for our courageous soldiers who have sacrifice their lives for a lost or abandoned war?

And many Americans no longer care about their country either.

The problem is not selfishness, it's with people not caring about our own country and putting the priorities of everyone else on par with our own people.

If there is nothing in it for our country to go to war and lose lives and money, then we shouldn't do it. America could spend much less money, and spend it much more wisely, by investing in protecting us from within, and also protecting our borders. If we put out minds to it and focused resources, we wouldn't have to be involved in dysfunctional places like the Middle East. I DO believe that terrorism is a threat, I just think there are smarter ways to deal with it.

Think about all the good things that would happen if we were more selfish..... no more billions spent solving problems that other countries bring on themselves, no more pulling the weight for the UN, no more outsourcing of jobs, no more passing out de facto 'citizenship' to anyone who sneaks across our borders....

Bottom line is that several generations of Americans worked hard to get us where we are today, we deserve to be successful! We deserve better than the government has delivered for the past 50 years .

Yeah, that's why we've contributed the most in the fight against AIDS in Africa and are winning that fight. That's why we were the first country to race to Bangladesh after the monsoon and we're still there giving assistance in any way the people need it. Frankly, with opinions such as yours, I think we SHOULD care a lot more about us and a lot less about these other places. I figure if we're going to get a bad rap for it anyway, we should just as well make these criticisms true, but then we'd be punishing the needy around the world for your comments and lack of understanding.

America and CBN is hardworking and compassionate about taking care of the poor people all over the world...our military have gone everywhere to bring food to people that suffer from starvation. No, you're sadly mistaken...and I disagree with you...America is a very giving country!

When WWII ended, America embarked upon the 'baby boom,' the 'greatest' generation then proceded to raise the most spoiled, self-aborbed, irresponsible generation since the fall of the Roman Empire.

First off i think the statement is somewhat too general, and shouldnt be applied to ALL americans. Second i think it has to do with the 'consumer society' and advertising. Ads today try to convince us that life is only worth living if we have 'things' that we can usually life quite well without. its all about the bottom line....profit.

Because most have never wanted...for anything and think everybody has the same opportunity. Never think about family that paved the way or simple breaks in life that others dream about.

We are not selfish. Our charity helps millions around the world. What we are selfish about is giving our sons and daughters lives for a war that was started on a falsehood and at current estimates, will last for another decade at least, ending with no improvement. But if the war were just, we would support it. That wouldn't keep us from competing for promotions, college scholarships, etc. We can do all those things and still support a just war.
