I get them in my yard all the time.. we have a momma and cub that I have seen several times now..and some big males as well. The mom and baby bear were literally 3 feet from my husband and I with only our screen door between us. They were not scared of us at all. We closed our sliding glass door and the baby finally got scared and ran away. The baby bear got chased up into a tree in our front yard a couple weeks ago by the neighbors dogs. The mom bear was in the woods calling to it and it kept answering her. It would not come down even after the dogs left. We went out and took some photos.. but they did not come out well..too dark. It was about 3 hours before the baby came down and was reunited with it's mom. I live in a mountain community in So. California.

I live in Alaska, and so two years ago, my Grandmother came up to see us from Pennsylvania. She is almost 70 years old and has never been out of the state so it was a big deal for her to come here. When she did, we took a trip to Denali National Park (not sure if you are familiar with it, but it's the home of Mt. McKinnley, the nations biggest mountain, and the worlds second largest, next to Mt. Everest). We went on this bus tour through the national park and it was the coolest thing I have eever done. We saw so many animals up front and close, it was almost unreal, and a bear happened to be one of those animals. At first, a baby bear approached the bus (we were stopped for people to take pictures of the scenery) and I can't recall what kind of bear it was, but I remember it being a blond haird bear! lol It was the cutest thing I had seen. Then not too far behind the baby was the mother bear. We slowly pulled off, and the bear went off on its own. Then several miles down the road, we stopped at a little rest stop area where you can get off the bus, use the outhouse (it all outside) eat a snack at the picnic table, and just stretch your legs, for about 20 mins...There was this river that ran along side this area where a coupla bears were starting to get within a few yards and all the sudden these park rangers pulled up and had to shoot the bears with these rubber bullets to get them to go away because they were getting to close. They did run along, but the whole experience was one I will never forget!

I saw a grizzly in Yellowstone. We were in Hayden Valley and a man spotted one over a mile away. He let everyone there use his scope but it was just a brown dot. Better than nothing I guess.

margecut there are still a lot of bears in Yellowstone. There are over 600 grizzlies in the region and probably twice that many, if not more black bears. In the past people were allowed to feed them and they came to the dumps to get food. Of course that wasn't very smart and not at all natural so they closed the dumps and told people not to feed the bears. So the bears learned to find food naturally and in return, have stayed away from the roads. The bears do not like roads, cars, people, etc. so they stay up in the mountains where there is more food. The bears are there, just harder to find.

I saw several in Yellowstone a couple of years ago.

First there was a momma and a baby black bear in a tree, and a second baby wandering around under the trees. The two in the tree had their backs to me, so I couldn't get any pictures. I thought the one on the ground would be easy to photograph, but every time I tried to get a picture of it, it turned away from me.

Later, there was a single black bear running along the road. I got a few photos of him.

I was amazed that there were so few bears in Yellowstone. In my parent's day, there were bears everywhere in Yellowstone. I was disappointed. But the up-close-and-personal elk and buffalo sightings MORE than made up for it!

Have seen several, but have had 3 close encounters. One I was horseback riding in MT and came around a corner and a bear was "bathing" in the horse trough, When he saw me, he ran away. Once while camping in the Yukon I was walking down a path towards the "outhouse" and a bear was running down the path towards me. I stepped off the path and he ran on past me. Needless to say I no longer needed to continue down the path. In a parking lot in Yosemite, the car parked next to me had a bear that was determined to get in to the food it smelled. It finally gave up and just sauntered around all the spectators, he had no fear.

Yes and it was an awesome experience! It was 17 years ago and my hubby, me and my daughter (age 2 at the time) stayed at a resort in NH during the fall. We had just finished a BBQ and were sitting on the porch of our place and out came two bear cubs. They came to sniff the BBQ and were only a few feet away from us and didn't seem to notice us. We stayed as still as possible, so that we didn't scare them. They were there for a few minutes and then walked away. As they did, out came either Mom or Dad who followed right behind them. It was definitely one of my most memorable life experiences.

Yeah, I came face to face with one in my driveway. Well not literally, he was about 10 feet away. I came around the corner of my house, in the Catskills of NY, and there he was. We both caught sight of each other at the same time. He just turned around a ran off. It was a big bruin Black Bear.

I have also seen several while driving. In fact just a couple of weeks ago I had one run out in front of the car. I missed him by a mile, but once he got to the side of the road, he stood up and looked at me, as I had stopped, as if to say, "Ha.......Missed Me!!!!!!"

I saw a bear cub in a parking lot next to my hotel in Gatlinburg. It wasn't really in the wild but it was a wild black bear. it was maybe 30 feet away from where we were standing.

I have seen a cougar once. My husband and I were camping and I spotted it. My husband just told me to walk slowly backwards away from the animal. If you run it will think you are prey. Another time while camping a park ranger came to our camp and told us there was a large black bear roaming the area and to keep all food put away and if it came close by to make a lot of noise by banging rocks and sticks. I live in Western WA state. We were camping in the Hoh rain forest both times.

Many many times. I live in the woods in Northern California. This summer one climbed over my fence to get to my garbage can, I chased him off and he did more damage to the fence leaving than when he came over. I have run into them many times when backpacking in the Sierra Nevada mountains. They are my favorite animal, i would never hurt them.
