Leu, I put up the link you asked for, I also notice you strategically fill in the second half of your "opinion" after the thumbs down, so you can say "thumbs down... blah blah" go and read the 5 answers that did agree. And don't try getting an intellectual one up on me.

Leu, who are these friends you keep referring to?

Sadly, on this occasion I cannot agree with Shambo. It strikes me just a tad over the top to expect someone to pay for their life for naming a stuffed toy with the wrong name. Let's be clear, it was a group of children that named ted Mohammed not Gillian Gibbons herself. I would question the parents faith here - if their religion is sooooooo important to them they surely they would have drummed it into their kids from the minute they were born that you don't name cuddly toys after your prophet. All this from country who continually commit mass murder in Darfur - they are lunatics and their behaviour demonstrates just how barbaric and inheritantly violent they are. I hope that Gillian is removed from their country safely - she must be going through hell.

No, of course I don't agree. I don't understand why the people of Sudan are being worked up about this, other than to stir up trouble and send a message to the west.

I also note that NO parent complained.....it was actually a member of the school. Now I bet the complainant won't be fired for going above her boss, and bringing the schools name in disrepute. Her motives were highly questionable.
I know the stakes are much higher, but the teacher concerned has also lost her job, and her security.

I think the whole thing is a set up for political gain, and I worry about what will happen next, for all of us.

shambo was talking a load of bull again. how on earth is a teacher who has been in the country for 2 months, who is not a muslim know that using the name mohammed for anything other than a child is an insult to the muslim religion, punishable by death or 40 lashes ??? why is an insult anyway ? something cute that children love having the same name. barmy the lot of em' barbaric and backwards. leave em to it, she should come home and stay here where mostly common sense prevails.

I don't see anyone agreeing (with regards to Shambo's posting) that execution is justified.

Maybe you should put up a link to this so we can see who are making those comments?

As for others making further comments - its called freedom of speech is it not? I think personally the teacher should not have been put through any of this - as I stated elsewhere the children nor the parents didn't see a problem since it took someone from the school to issue a complaint and that was after the letters were sent out to the parents!

Lets hope she is released very soon.

EDIT - a thumbs down...now I wonder who that could be from!?!

EDIT

I suggest you learn to read darlin'. I have asked you where people have agreed with her (wanted) execution NOT those agreeing with her current punishment. So, please inform me if you can....unless you and your buddies are going to start twisting my comments as well! :o)

Watch for the TDs. :o))))

EDIT

"And don't try getting an intellectual one up on me."

That ain't too difficult where you and your friends are concerned ;o)

EDIT

"Leu, who are these friends you keep referring to?"

That's the problem there are so many like you here on YA - you're all so similar. :o)

EDIT

Sleep tight! ;o)

I couldn't understand anyone wanting such vicious treatment of a care worker. I am respectful of others beliefs but I'm outraged at the behaviour and truly think that the sooner we stop trade, support or allowing such types into this country the better, this question has just enraged me towards more hatred. Religion is often the common denominator in these cases.

The world is full of different opinions.

Personally, I think they should have given her 5 days (she already did 5 days before court appearance) and so they could have been seen to have got their conviction and a sentence, and they would have saved face by letting her go, instead of showing an ugly side to fundamentalism. But they don't care what we think.

If there are people who believe she should be executed on these boards then I am also shocked.
The whole thing is juvenile at best.
21st Century caveman mentality.
I am afraid the world is going to become a much uglier place before it begins to look better again.
I am sorry to feel that way but I do.

completely agree with retox. I can't understand how people are saying she deserves what she is getting. the kids named the bear, when kids are that age they need to be encouraged and praised for their decisions. obviously they saw nothing wrong with the name, and neither did the teacher. so, is it fair then that the kids get punished for not abiding by, not only the laws, but also their religion???

The punishment is not justified from what i can gather it was children that named the bear and they thought it a suitable name really why execute someone over a harmless teddy

Anyone who thinks that she should be executed is deranged and should be in a straight jacket. And while I think that killing anyone is not good in some respects human right as one poster put it or not the people that carry out the worse crime should pay the ultimate price.
