Like at the racetrack, everyone picks their favourite ,on the home turn the pack forms then the bolter emerges, wins, then all the theories come out as to why it was a chance. I 'm thinking the AFL bolter could be Brisbane . They still have a number of Premiership players and coach, which is lethal, given he already has 4 flags to his name, Bradshaw returns from injury, and they will want to strengthen their hold on QLD territory with the Roos move debate. Then they have traversed Robertson, intersecting him from Melbourne, and who has forgotten their demolition of Collingwood in R 17, the team who missed the grand final by 5 points against the eventual record breaking winner .

Essendon .
With the clearing out of some dead wood and some fresh players added to the club , I expect a top 8 finish from Essendon . Dustin Fletcher and Mal Michael have had good seasons in 2007 . Alwyn davey has been an important part of our club. We could have made it to the finals, if his arm hasn't broken. He also won the army award, for bravery and courage, in his first season in the AFL.
Ramanauskas did a great job in his 5 games, considering he had just come back from a battle with cancer.
Jason Laycock was a great ruckman collecting 20 disposals in the round 20 win over Carlton.
Scott Lucas and Matthew Lloyd are in 2007 and will be in 2008 powerhouse forwards. Lloyd got 62 goals, including the goal of the year and Scott Lucas got 61 goals, Inspiring great fightbacks and wins including this amazing display http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-116287639765136354&q=scott+lucas&total=5014&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=0anandthiswinning
and this winning goal- http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6188924556523378870.

Patrick Ryder played 21 out of 22 games, and while he wasn't the best player , he certainly wasn't the worst.

Jobe Watson is a great player and he had a low this year of
16 disposals against Adelaide and a high of 30 against Adelaide. He tackles frequently with 62 tackles made this season.

Bachar Houli-
Came 2nd in the 3.2 km time trial.
Played 4 games and kicked 3 goals .
Has a great potential.

David Hille-
Solid ruckman.
Took 70 marks. Tackled 33 times.

Adam McPhee-
Good player off half back. Kicked 55 goals in 78 performances.

Tom Hislop-
Can't really judge him . Played 1 game.
Kicked a goal.

Courtney Johns- Not really developed enough.
Played 20 games.
Hasn't shown enough promise outside Bendigo.

Tayte Pears, Darcy Daniher and Cale Hooker are great.
I've seen hillight reels of them and they will be young stars.

Henry Slattery- Used as a tagger.
In the 1 point win over West Coast, he held Daniel Kerr to 17 disposals, which included only 3 kicks.

All Essendon players have positives and are good/great players.

I've thought for a few years Richmond are building. They have some good young talent. I'd pick them as likely surprise top four material but I don't think they have premiership written on them.

St Kilda didn't seem to get much new youth which surprised me a bit but they have to be in the hunt. Still think Fraser's a liability to their new plans.

But I agree, Brisbane are the biggest under-achievers this year (without obvious reason like WCE) as Geelong were last year. They have the players and a settled coach.

Go Tigers, every one seems to forget the tigers rotten luck with injury last year, the year b4 they were 9th again weren't they? can't remember, but you add Mark Coghlan, a b+f winner, a fit Brown and Simmonds, didn't have a real ruckman all year, add McMahon, this Cotchin kidd, Foley has come on well, they will surprise this year and you cant go on the lions belting c'wood, we do it every year, they got beat by the tiges again this year guys, bottom side. robo is staying at melb last i heard too.....

Oh im hoping like hell that Richmond or Bulldogs are the suprise package for '08.

I think i would be just as excited and happy if either got the flag as I would if Collingwood did :)

Deadsmurf - so sorry that you are getting all the thumb down attention now...i really appreciate you sticking up for us girls!!

Richmond (just kidding. I follow them so I have to mention them. 9-12 expected).
The surprise team may well be Western Bulldogs. No one doubts the smalls its the talls they need. They did a good job bolstering this during trade week. With improvement by players like Everitt and co they should finish between 3-7.

Well Im going to say Carlton and Richmond, cause its about time they get their backsides up and running to be at least in the top 8. Instead of holding up the ladder.

deedubya,i hope its carlton but i agree brisbane played well last year and with their combination of young and old plus bradshaw comming back and the recruitment of TRAVIS JOHNSTON (not robertson) from melbourne they should go ok.
