that they would not have had to wear in the country of their ancestors? Sure, I recognize that some African countries wear clothes because some U.S. tourists are offended by nudity, and I recognize that nudity in the U.S. is only healthy and comfortable in the warmer months, but that is no reason to spurn the culture of persons whose parents were brought here against their will!

Okay, so I don't know what my Irish ancestors, who fled a famine caused by colonial rule in Ireland, used to wear, and as a white (sort of pinkish, actually) person, I get to blend easier in the US, but I think a people's separation from ancestral clothing styles is not such a huge problem.

Also, because of the invisible-to-Americans diversity in African populations, even just those who became the majority of slaves in North America, you're asking kind of a silly question. People from neighboring areas had different styles and preferences, and people from across the areas that slaves were taken from wore a huge variety of clothes.

So if you managed to trace back your ancestral clothing styles on one line of ancestry, would you be committing cultural genocide by not simultaneously tracing back all the others?

There could be dozens.

That's because they were slaves when they were brought from Africa. After being freed, & suppressed by violence & unfair civil laws for over a century, we put all this behind us & went on with our lives.

Africans that are now in western civilization are accustomed to the cultures there. Why would you want to bring it back if you don't even know what part of Africa you came from? You aren't an African native.

definite africans were presented the following antagonistic to their will..yet generations have exceeded and now you're considered an african-american and also you're being raised contained in the in basic terms lifestyle that you comprehend of. no longer understanding a lot about your african roots you may continuously bypass lower back to africa to discover your genuine self and no one is protecting you lower back from doing that. you should go back to grips that you're in united states of america now even if if antagonistic for your will (somewhat your ancestors). And comprehend you've better threat the following than you've gotten in africa so do not you've some thing to be pleased about?

You have no clue....
When slaves were first brought here in the 1800's..... They were placed in special processing centers...... and "de-cultured"..... They were not allowed to speak their own language...... not allowed to worship their Gods...... were not allowed to eat there own foods or wear their normal tribal costumes......they were physically and psychologically stripped......treated like farm animals.......considered property not human...... today most black people could not trace their history beyond American shores..... they do not know what their ancestors actually wore ( not all Africans were naked then or now)...... and the beauty of America is many black Americans do wear traditional African clothes .....ever heard of a "dashiki"

running around half-naked may be culturally ok in Africa, but not in the U.S. Furthermore, do you know what tribe in Africa you came from and are you willing to go there to live among them to really learn what their lifestyle is like? It's a tough life, (and I'm not being racist, but rather realistic). My ancestors, from Eastern Europe, where nomadic, living in tents. That wouldn't do here. Though black ancestors were brought here for slavery (and BTW, slavery still exists all over the world today), many avenues have opened up for blacks especially with education. Respect your ancestors by bettering yourself with education (college), and helping to keep your geneology alive.

Well Africans were free many years ago. They had the freedom to either become citizens of the U.S., meaning they submit to the law of the U.S. meaning wear clothes. Or, if they wanted to go around naked (as I'm sure most don't and you have problems if you want to), they were free to go back to Africa. Actually most Native Africans wear clothes. Do you have a problem? If you feel like going free visit a nude beach!

there are very few areas of africa that did not wear clothes. have you ever seen the Benin Kingdoms bronzes you will see they wore clothes well the more wealthy ones did but the lack of clothes were the people who were not wealthy. and almost all wore something to cover up their modesty i will say. really you should read Mungo Parks journey to the interior of africa as well as look at african art from before the colonialists from nigeria and you will see what i mean

Okay in my opinion if they are still dwelling on the fact that they were brought here against thier will then maybe they would be more comftorable going back to thier homeland..I'm not racist but it doesn't make sense to me the africans that complain about being brought here against thier will, if they are so unhappy here and think it's so terrible they were brought to America why don't they leave

Well, for those who were brought to America against their will many moons ago, in today's world they can either deal with wearing clothes here or take a trip back to Africa where they will feel more comfortable living in their own culture and wearing (or not wearing) what they please. But when in America, do as the Americans. We have our morals and our own laws here. It is only right to respect and uphold our laws. If American were to go to Africa, you wouldn't expect the American to do what he/she pleases. You would expect them to obey and live under African laws.
