Are you mad you should have rested it.
Leave off the football and strap it up and rest.

As a caregiver I do wonder if you ever got this checked out at a Dr's office. You might think it's a sprain and actually have a fracture. Even a hair line fracture requires some support for healing. And stop kicking the ball around. Find out what's going on first Giant Honkey. The amount of time you are talking does not support this being a simple sprain, unless of course, you are pushing it. A picked scab takes longer to heal. Pamper that ankle for awhile. Elevate it as much as you can. Soothe it with Epsom soaks. And for Pete's sake. If that doesn't make a difference you should see a doctor. Sounds like you already should have. Take care of yourself and good luck.

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.
So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.
Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.
A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.
Heal your ankle fully & fast?

You probably need to do some stengthening exercises - look this up on the internet. I sprained my ankle a couple of years ago and pulled every tendon in my ankle - it took months to get back to normal again - I suppose it's because it's a part of our body that never gets a good rest! If you are worried go to your doctor - you could have chipped a bone or something.

Get it looked at by an orthopedic surgeon. You may not have just sprained it, you may have, in fact, broken it. I recently broke my foot in two places - and right after I got the cast and accoutrements finished with, my mother sprained her ankle and asked the surgeon to take a look - she had, in fact, had an avulsion fracture of the talus.
In which case it'll take up to 2 months to heal and walk on it without a brace, and 6 months to be completely "pain free".
Also, you shouldn't be playing football on it!

Keep it moving. A sprain can take longer than a break to repair itself. I went over three months in my youth when an upright piano and a friend dropped on my right ankle one after another
and I men in seconds not minutes. So just strap it up when playing footie

Funny, I did the same thing (but not football) It's been since February of this year and every once in awhile I will feel a stick of sharp pain. My doctor told me the best thing for it is to soak in warm water and then do the Alphabet excersize everyday (write each letter of the alphabet with your foot, drawing them in the air). It helps!

You might get it x-rayed and then see what doctor suggests. You could also keep it elevated when not on it and apply heat to it and buy a ankle brace to wear on it that way it will help support it.
