If you guys know me at all, you should know who I pick as the most overrated Chicago Cubs player is. And well yes he is a pitcher. But I would like you picks on who you think is the most overrated pitcher currently on the Chicago Cubs roster. I would like to post all thier pitcher names, but it would take up a lot of room, and plus who knows they might be traded, released, etc. But you can go to http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/team/roster_active.jsp?c_id=chc , and check out the list of pitchers that are currently on thier roster, but just in case you don't know, my #1 pick is Kerry Wood. And like I said, you should know who my pick is, if you know me, but not like I am saying that you met me in person.

And please also tell me why you think this pitcher that is currently on thier roster, is the most overrated. So how I put this off my mind when I wrote the details for this question.

I assume by over-rated you mean what 1 pitcher on our beloved Cubbies produces less than what is expected, and when ranked according to other pitchers in similar roles comes up wanting. Another consideration would be is ones confidence in him justified by his performance.
Over the last 4 years, my nominee has 'accomplished' the following..
ERA has risen 44% over 4 years..
HR per 9 innings risen 60% over 4 years
BB per 9 innings risen 21% over 4 years
K Per 9 innings dropped 10% over 4 years
K to BB ratio dropped nearly 25% over 4 years
On top of that he is streaky and emotional, and throws way too many pitches..
At one time Carlos Zambrano was one of the top few SP's in baseball...now he is just another guy with an ERA around 4.00, and rapidly declining skill set...for which he is being paid gazillions...
He will be an albatross around our teams neck before we know it....
I Lubs da Cubs, and still think Bartman reached into the playing field to take the ball from Moises, and the umps missed it....
It is not from hate I call out Carlos...but the numbers speak for themselves..
He just plain and simply is not an elite pitcher anymore..though many people consider him to be..

Zambrano. He supposed to be the Cubs "#1" , their ace. He is so terribly inconsistent. After the 2004 season, I thought he was on the upswing. He was 16-8, era 2.75, so 188, bb 81. Last season he went 18-13, a career high for wins. His era was 3.95 and he walked 101. The year before he walked over 100 too. He's still young but hasn't progressed in my opinion. He has to show he isn't a head case. Right now if the Cubs faced a must win game and I could choose any of their starters, it wouldn't be him.

I think our most overrated pitcher is either Sean Marshall or Angel Guzman
We should trade Marshall, Guzman, or Prior with Cedeno, then Murton, Fuld, or Pagan and Eric Patterson in a trade to the Rays for Carl Crawford.
I would trade Prior, Cedeno, Fuld, and Patterson for Crawford. It seems this trade can be more likely now because the Rays lost out on Izturis. One of the three pitchers will also help them with the rebuilding of their bullpen, an outfielder as a 4th OFer, and Patterson as the center of the trade and he'll be the OFer that will replace Crawford because Patterson's MiLB numbers are comparable to Crawfords. It's a great trade for both teams.

I think every one knows Wood will never be that pitcher who throws 20 strikeouts in a game. Last year I think he did an awsome job coming out of the bullpen and he exceded my expectations. I mean I don't know what you've been reading or who you have been talking to but who is rating Kerry wood so high that you have him as an overrated player?

Ryan Dempster! On too many occasions sending him into a critical situation is like throwing gasoline on a fire. For every good performance, it seems like there are several that are at best mediocre. I really believe that he would do better in the rotation, because I don't think he has the psychological makeup to be a closer.

I say the overrated pitcher is Kerry Wood. He just doesn't have it like he once did and doesn't seem to bounce back, either.

My answer is easy. Carlos Zambrano. Reasons: 1) The month of August....he should have been a twenty game winner and Cy Young shoe in. 2). NLDS Should have won two games in it.

I'll go with Edgar and say Guzman - this guy has never impressed me and he can't seem to stay healthy.
